Got one of their double wooden garage doors in 2018. Did a service at end 2020. Door is falling apart! They take no responsibility and don't even come for an assessment before sending me a R6500 invoice which wouldnt address the problem.. Pay up front? Got 2 door specialists to come past and are both amazed at the quality of the doors and how it was installed/assembled. Full of finger joints without glue. Not enough support (top hats), HINGES in middle of panels instead of uprights, no bottom (smile) brackets, tracks too far from panels, spring tensioning not balanced, bottom lateral hinges for single doors. I had to remove and fix and rebuild the whole door. Stay away from this company. I have never dealt with this level of unethical behaviour or lack of quality. My previous door lasted over 20 years.
I have 2 smeg ovens and stoves. Spent 40k. Brand looks good and seemed to have a presence in SA as it is sold in many top-end stores. Had a nightmare trying to fix my oven even with technicians recommended by Smeg HO. Treat you like a dog and make you wait for more than 3 weeks after asking for payment UP FRONT. They dont support their own products and use only unethical sub-contractors. I have also had more trouble with this oven that our old Defy which lasted over 20 years. Last time. Be careful. All that glitters is not Gold. Products are only as good as their after sales service
Needed an extra tracking device for additional vehicle due to insurance requirements. Sales people always too busy too assist or gone home and dont call back. Its a debit order scheme period. very user unfriendly company with terrible staff at customer care
I have been a Vodacom client since the inception of cell phones! Thats a quarter of a century. My phone spend has always been over 1k per month minimum. In July I had my phone and laptop stolen. If that wasnt enough after upgrading I was charged twice for July's billing on 2 separate contracts?! They are interested in resolving issue. I now travelled near the Botswana border and had my phone on GPS and whatsapp. Got a R800 bill from Vodacom for roaming charges without leaving SA!! Must add this company to the list of organized crime in this country.
Bought an AEG freezer/fridge upright pair about 3 years ago. 20k so not cheap. My freezer is already gone. Needs 2.5k repairs. Had a Kelvinator before this for 20 years. Zero spend! Try and calling Electrolux and getting response.
Built a flatlet and was recommended this company TECHNISTRUT to do the chromadek roof. Was told I would have no hassle so I didnt even get other quotes. Had site meeting in detail with rep to discuss heights. Paid 75% immediately. Then balance BEFORE delivery - not surprised they want it all up front. Stock arrived one week late which delayed whole job. Heights were incorrect which resulted in having to start building again and having to raise wall even though I had stressed the need to stay lower. Materials were WAY over-ordered because they supply only even though job was measured as-built. Overhang way to short. Could have done a way better, cheaper and quicker job myself dealing direct with roofing installer. Looks like a DIY job. Careful.
Company that distributes tons of brochures and DUMPS them in other people drains causing blockages in other people sewerage . When requested kindly to pay for repairs caused by their staff's illegal practices they ignore you. Great ethic.

unfortunately in spite of staying away for 16 years I used SAA to fly to Europe over Xmas holidays. Knew I was taking a chance. Reputation of this airline and its ills are well documented. So I suppose this is my fault - I should have know better and stayed away. After all there are other options.

My lugage was delayed due to my wife having to be pulled off the return flight to London over a transit VISA issue. We reported our luggage as missing. I was informed in the afternoon it was arriving and they had traced it. I was told the next morning it had arrived. By the time I got to the airport to collect my missing luggage and my wife who had to fly alone on a rerouted flight the bigeest, newest suitcase with about 24kgs of personal belongings had vanished. I could see immediately that the staff there who are supposed to assist passengers locate their "lost" luggage are the very ones making the luggage disappear by creating smokescreens. I have a full sequence of events that can prove that. In spite of numerous appeals no-one has even bothered getting back to us to investigate. My lawyer who specializes in aviation issues says the place is a "mafia". I can see that now. How its allowed to continue is testament to what a failing country we have at many levels. We might as well be called the looting republic of south africa. It is disgraceful and a violation of our rights as citizens. The bags had been traced and everything was ok until the luggage arrives at mafia HQ ie OR Tambo luggage areas. I saw hundreds of misplaced bags. I saw tens of EMPTY suitcases!!! The only lost luggage counters at arrivals were the SAA ones. You are a disgrace SAA and I will never forgetbthe way you ruined the end of our family vacation and robbed us. may you all rot in HELL!

After a nightmare return trip from Europe my wife's suitcase has now mysteriously disappeared. 25 kgs of personal belongings and family gifts plus new suitcase. Bar code number et al. In this day and age? As usual no urgency, no feedback, mistakes on processing claim etc etc etc. the usual stuff south africans have gotten used to now. They dont know where my bag is and cant trace it??? I was told my 4 bags had arrived - LATE - and when I went to airport ONE was NOT THERE. SA para statals make you feel like you are a participant in HUNGER GAMES. They will never get out of the red operating like this. They are doing customers a favour.

This past Xmas I took my family of 5 to Italy/Europe for the first time to see their family. As you can imagine it is quite a costly and intense exercise.

I booked 5 flights to destination Milan on the internet – from OR Tambo, Jhb. The outbound leg was via Frankfurt and the return leg happened to be via London which I found odd as in 47 years of flying to Italy with numerous airlines I had never been that route. I thought little of it as I had flown to Italy in June via Etihad and July via Emirates and the flying times are more onerous and less direct even though the airlines are top notch at the same price.

My children (3) and I have Italian EU passports. My wife has a SA passport. She got a schengen visa for Italy as the destination of choice.

On the outbound leg my earpiece was not working. My daughter’s had to be pushed in continuously in order for it to work – not a train smash. Happened with Luthansa some time ago. They gave me a R700 voucher. SAA gave me a Time magazine. Fair enough – wouldn’t complain about that if the rest had of gone smoothly.

At our departure yesterday at Linate airport in Milan during boarding, my wife was informed that she could not travel with the rest of us because she didn’t have a transit VISA for the UK. We explained that we were not going to visit the UK but they insisted that she could not travel – no exceptions. You can imagine the shock when after 18 days of being abroad your mother is left behind in a foreign country. As I said I took my first flight in 1969 and had never experienced anything like this even before the EU passports/Eurozone/Shengen days.

As I write this my wife is hopefully departing from Munich after having spent a night in a Milan airport hotel courtesy of Alitalia. She had to go to Rome today to catch a flight to Munich and then catch a Lufthansa flight to CAPE TOWN tomorrow! When we arrived this morning I tried to explain the situation to the “customer care” reps at OR Tambo in Jhb and asked them if they could assist in getting her to Jhb tomorrow morning. They told me I had to buy another ticket. I eventually did that. They weren’t too interested. Take it or leave it which I will in future. Competition is a wonderful thing. Once bitten twice shy.

To add to thos misery the rest of us arrived in Jhb to find our luggage did not. That will hopefully? arrive tomorrow. My kids start school tomorrow and this was quite a disturbing start to the year. Their mother is still in Europe. So is their luggage and gifts. We would have preferred ending our first European family trip together.

On the return flight the box under my seat which holds a suspended safety jacket was lying on the floor and kept falling off the seat. I was told it is normal – shoddy. My earpiece worked however! I fly every year with numerous airlines and after many years of not using SAA we decided to give it a shot. Big mistake.

I feel that allowing the site to use London as an alternative return route for people not headed to the UK and not in possession of foreign passports is misleading. If we were all SA passports holders we would have had to pay an additional R5000 for visas for a transit visa to visit an airport. This should have been made clear to us. You will say it is the passengers responsibility to ensure they familiarize themselves with visa regulations. Had I known I would have simply used another airline or route instead of putting my family through this nightmare experience and leave a sour taste in our mouths at the end of a great trip.

Thanks SAA. I am aggrieved that my tax money contributes to keeping this company in business. I will definitely not recommend you as an airline of choice.

UPDATE: WIFE EVENTUALLY ARRIVED AT AN ADDITIONAL COST. 40 hour trip.

two days later - still one large suitcase outstanding. holding on for 20 minutes with luggage retrieval for third time.

bottom line is they dont get what customer care is actually all about. its a para statal and runs like govt unfortunately
