Went for a birthday lunch at La-Perna restaurant Pretoria North on Saturday, high expectations place is themed 50's & 60's Johnny Cash, Beatles, James Dean posters, old motor bikes and old Coca cola signs etc etc. Looks good but boy, prices are crazy but hey maybe the food is spectacular. What a joke, my child's kiddie meal at R 55 consisted of 10 chips and 4 small strips of chicken. Service takes forever, ask for sauces nothing arrives, ask another table for them and before you finish they zip them away when you look away without asking, by the time you find some again the food is cold. The burgers were dry too. Yes it was busy but more TRAINED staff needed here, ask for a last round never arrives, OK so ask for bill THAT arrives 20 mins later WITH the 'last round' drinks on that never arrived! another 15 mins to sort that out. They also blast Afrikaans music all day despite there being a diverse crowd, black, white, young and old, play some old stuff in keeping with the theme man! NEVER AGAIN.
Fantastic back up and support, friendly call center.
Decided to spend a night at the lodge as we love the Vaal river and surrounds. Found on internet and looked good so called and booked a room, very impressed upon arrival as the grounds are very neat and it feels like you are arriving at a lodge far away in the bush yet only 12 km out of V/D Bijl park next to the Vaal river. Staff extremely friendly and attentive, beautiful views and the room was spacious and clean. VIews are breathtaking and a cold beer on the deck was the order of the day. If I must nitpick unfortunately the breakfast was a bit cold and the waiter cleared our table very quickly of the sauces and spices holder to give to another table without asking if we were finished with them although we were only halfway through our meal. Salt, pepper the lot, training?. After working in the hospitality industry for 12 years it pains me to see this kind of behavior, sometimes I want to offer my services for free just to train them. :) but that aside we would go back.
Bad food, bad service, bad attitudes. Played some golf then lunch, bad idea. Should have eaten elsewhere, waiter clueless no training, food mediocre at best, burnt pizza with inflated prices. 4 star?? Please...I have had better service at a 2 star. Never again.
Initially on arrival for breakfast the service was fine and food was OK. Our child went to play on the indoor jungle gym and my wife went to check on him, I ordered a cup of tea and a coke, the drinks arrived and I decided to go take photos of our *** in the play area as the tea was hot anyway. After 5 minutes or so I returned to find that they had cleared the table of a full coke and the pot of tea! The place was not busy and we there at least 45 minutes already and the play area was 10 metres away! surely you look around 1st as who leaves a full coke and pot of tea on the table? They offered to replace but we were then in a hurry and I told them to take it off the bill which they did not look happy about.. seriously??
Ordered bacon cheese burgers, asked for crispy bacon, no problem the guy says. Burgers arrive with rubbery undercooked bacon, complain and woman (manager?) Says 'sorry we can't make crispy bacon'. Whaat? Cheese also a thin slice of processed cheese. Rates as one of the worst burgers we hsve ever had.
