For ethical reasons, I have been following a vegan diet since 2020. When I enquired from Reef Caterers whether they would be willing to serve me vegan lunches at an institute where they serve daily lunches, I was informed that they'll consider my request only after I have obtained a note form a medical doctor stating that I follow a vegan diet for medical reasons. Since I am passionate to fight for my rights to follow a vegan diet, I do not tolerate such bullying behaviour. After all, I am standing up for animals, who unfortunately, no not have a voice of their own. I find it absurd, to say the least, that Reef Caterers are so stubborn to try and make my life as difficult as possible simply because I asked them nicely to serve vegan meals. I work as a volunteer for SANBS, and they make use of a caterer who provides vegan meals without any questions asked. That is what one would expect from a caterer, methinks.

Since I had several negative interactions with Reeve Caterers, I decided it is high time to write a HelloPeter complaint. Two weeks ago, I gave Reef Caterers a 1-star review on Google Maps. They responded with a request that I should remove my 1-star review, since my issue has been resolved, LOL. On Tuesday, 4 February 2025, I have sent an email to Charlene Grobler, the regional manager of Reef Caterers, to which she has never responded. In this email, I requested whether I could be served vegan meals, should I decide to become a resident of Kingswood Retirement Village. Prior to this email being sent to Charlene Grobler, Kingswood Retirement Village, notified me via email that Reef Caterers do serve vegetarian meals. A week ago the management of Kingswood Retirement Village informed me that after a discussion with Reef Caterers, they will be wiling to make an exception for me, but only if I provide a note from a medical doctor that I am allergic to dairy and eggs. I fail to see how this matter can be regarded as being resolved. Why do I have to provide a note from a medical doctor in order to be served vegan meals? I am sure that you provide Halal meals for your Muslim clients, without raising an eyebrow. But, for some reason you regard vegans as a nuisance? Is it so difficult to understand that I follow a vegan diet for ethical reasons? Three years ago, Reef Caterers provided snacks at my dad's memorial service. Before the time, I enquired from the manager of Reef Caterers at Kingswood Retirement Village, Lizel, whether she would be willing to arrange vegan snacks for me. Her answer was "yes, no problem." On the day of my dad's memorial service, when I enquired about my vegan snacks, I was informed by the manager, Lizel, that she completely forgot about my special request. Because I felt bereft after my dad's passing, I did not feel like complaining at that time. Thus, I bring up the matter only now.

Whatever you do, do not go to a hospital where Reef does the catering. It will most certainly not help you get better. In fact the opposite. Absolutly disgusting that they be allowed to serve this. Definitely going to complain bigtime to the med aid and hospital.

This company drain all life out of there workers. They work 12 hour shifts and don't even get anything to eat. Dry bread and tea. The get paid short. The took mu money and did not even pay me when I left. The serve under spec meals wich the client t is paying for. The get leftover food for meals and mix there food with other stuff to make it more. On 12kg of meat they supposed to serve they only do 8.. They threaten you by telling you you will have no future ahaid. Worst company I hVe ever worked for in my 30 years of service. Someone has to stop them.

Since last year Reef caterer started to prepare the doctors food in theatre at a private hospital on a daily basis Inspite of numerous attempts to communicate the very poor quality of the food with the company managers and hospital management - No improvement Not only is the products used of poor quality the meals are badly prepared and with no variation Reef management seem uninterested or incapable to resolve this issue -

A bit hit and miss catering in a retirement home. Breakfasts okay but toast sometimes burnt. Lunch good, but portions too small for men. Suppers are too light. Last night was starch plus more starch, e.g. noodles with a scant (unknown) liquid stirred in plus a slice of unbuttered bread. Many people didn't eat it. Residents never get fresh fruit.
