Avoid this restaurant at all costs. The fantastic venue and decor convinced us to book a table for international friends visiting SA. After a terrible ordeal, we left embarrassed and hungry to say the least. Upon booking our table, we called twice to secure the booking, but arrived to find no table booked. Shunted to the corner we decided to make the most of our evening. The waiter, pleasant and sweet, had no food specials or meals to recommend, and when asked, he recommended the lamb curry, for the seafood specialty restaurant?! 1,5 hrs later, after 3 bread baskets and two bottles of wine, and some very hungry guests - the waiter decided to inform us that there was no kingklip and we had to change our orders. The poor guest of ours had to change her order three times due to no stock. The third time was after waiting 1,5 hrs. When the food arrived, sadly everyone found it obismal - the side roasted vegetable selection with the lamb and steaks consists of two carrot sticks, a quarter of quickly chopped tomato and some raw onion. Not much of a roasted veg selection is it? The T Bone steak was full of sinu and extremely over cooked. And as for the third selection of fish, the entrire plate was sent back and our guest decided not to eat after the entire ordeal. What was planned to be a lovely welcome dinner turned into an embarrassing nightmare. We had to explain ourselves to three different management members each and every time, luckily the third time, the manager agreed to provide the meal on the house, and let us be on our way. If you are looking for a long night, a lovely view and tons of home made bread, then this is the place for you. If you are looking for service and a good meal, then avoid this restauarant at all costs and don’t be fooled by the pretty decor and scenic positioning of the venue.

Went to Seelan restaurant for family breakfast. The service was atrocious. The server looked as though each request was way too much effort for him to do. An item which is advertised as part of the meal, they have stopped serving \long ago"but there is no replacement for it so you pay for it but just dont get it. 4 tables occupied and we still waited almost an hour for our food which was not at all the quality expected from a tourist attraction like the V&A."""

We had our year end function at Seelan this past Saturday and what a disappointment. The only good thing we experienced was the food but left with a bitter taste in our mouths due to the bad service. Firstly, after confirming our booking twice during the week, we had no booking when arriving at the restaurant. Our waiter was intoxicated-he stank of alcohol which is unacceptable above and beyond due to there being Muslims in our party as well as small kids! In addition, when our bill was presented to us, we were treated basically as thieves, with the waiter leaning over people onto the table calculating the tip we should pay (after telling him we will do it). This calculation was less than the total bill which is not surprising considering his state of mind. After advising him that we will need 2 minutes to sort the bill out, 3 waiters hovered around us like we were going to run without paying. The bill itself was also a mess with 3 errors and over charging. On showing the waiter the error, we got no apology, only a snarky comment and bad attitude. With there being so many great restaurants in Cape Town, Seelan better make a big change for me to ever return.
A Daddys deal was bought for this restaurant. We were informed on the deal that we need to make a booking. I emailed(as stated on the deal) I then phoned the day before to confirm booking(as stated on the deal) there was no booking made-so then made the booking again. On getting there, we were told the booking was not made.
After this, we told the waiter we had the deal- to our dismay they did not have the beef ribs(which was offered on the deal). We then chose the steaks- I ordered well done and my boyfriend ordered medium rare, he then received well done(they luckily rectified this issue). After this our waiter had disappeared, my steak was well done on the edges and medium well in the middle. I could not eat it and asked the random waiter if I could take it as take away and told him it was not well done- he said \yes he sees blood".

As my boyfriend was eating his chips- a different waiter/manager took his plate. He was not even done and I told the manager/waiter that I do not think he is finished. My boyfriend then said its fine he is full and it was taken away. On leaving we asked for the take away- the waiter had thrown it away. Never saw the original waiter again."""

On the 28th of May, I decided to have my 21st supper at Seelan. I was highly upset by the poor service and bad attitude we received. The food we ordered was not up to standard, and almost everything was either under done or over cooked. When complaining to the waiter about the quality of our food, he simply took the plate in an irritated manner and would not even apologize for the inconvenience. I understand that it is quite challenging in handling big groups of people, but as a customer I expect the restaurant to make our stay a good experience. The way we were dealt with was as if we were looked down on for the colour of our skin. I will definitely not recommend Seelan to anyone nor will it ever be my restaurant of choice.
