Garage Door still not delivered after 11 months — refund still outstanding
I contacted Martie at The Garage Door People (Ballito) in October 2024 for a new garage door. She responded quickly, sent a quote, and I paid in full. Despite many assurances, as of September 2025 I still do not have a door, and no refund has been paid. Timeline (high level): Oct 2024: Quote received and paid in full. Nov 2024 – early 2025: Repeated messages that installation would happen “today” or “tomorrow,” including “the installer is doing yours today.” None of these dates materialised. Mid-2025: I was told money was “owed on my door.” I even offered to settle any shortfall to get the door delivered (as that would be cheaper than starting over). This was declined, which raised concerns that the door may never have been ordered. Mid-2025 – Sep 2025: Multiple promises to start repaying the full amount; no payments received. I have WhatsApp/email correspondence to support this sequence. I understand projects go wrong, and a sincere apology with a concrete plan would have gone a long way. Unfortunately, I’ve received conflicting assurances and missed commitments for months. This has been time-consuming and costly, and I feel a responsibility to warn other customers based on my experience. Requested resolution: Immediate full refund, or A confirmed installation date within 7 business days, with the door supp**** and installed in full, plus a written commitment to meet that date. If this isn’t resolved promptly, I’ll continue with formal escalation through the appropriate channels.

Excellent Service and Professionalism

They arranged a site visit without delay and, upon inspection, quickly identified that the issues stemmed from a substandard installation. They explained that the damage was more extensive than initially anticipated and proposed a thorough repair the very next day. True to their word, the team arrived ahead of schedule and worked diligently throughout the day. What impressed me most was their attention to detail and commitment to excellence. Despite only billing me for parts and three hours of labour, the technicians spent over six hours on-site, replacing the spring, hinges, and side bearings, and ensuring everything was meticulously installed and tested. They left the work area spotless and provided a comprehensive report to assist with my dealings with the insurance company. The team consistently communicated throughout the process and took great care to ensure I was completely satisfied with the outcome. I cannot speak highly enough of The Garage Door People. Their professionalism, technical knowledge, efficiency, and dedication to customer satisfaction are truly commendable. I wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone in need of garage door repairs or installation services.

Best in Class!
A breath of fresh air after being taken for my entire deposit of R9k, by Umhlanga Gates & Garage Doors. I requested a quote online at about 2pm on the Monday. Got the quote within an hour. I was the best of 3 quotes i got and placed the order on the Tuesday. Door was installed on the Thursday. Working perfect, not fuss! Great Service!

UNPROFESSIONAL, INCONSIDERATE, and ******. DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE
I found The Garage Door People online to purchase automated garage doors. The initial communication was excellent, helping me identify my needs and budget. I made a 70% deposit as requested. However, the experience soured when it came time for installation. The wife informed me 20 minutes after the agreed time that the installer was sick. Despite my cancelled plans, she was unhelpful and declined my calls, citing personal commitments. After three cancellations, the installation finally took place. The communication became UNPROFESSIONAL, INCONSIDERATE, and even ******. Overall, a very DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE.

The Garage Door People - Terrible Service & *****ulent Business
Terrible and very *****ulent company full of despicable lies and empty promises. I paid in full for my garage door in December 2023. Five months later, yes five months later still has not been installed. Its has been a terrible nightmare dealing with them, more in particular a lady called Martie. A lie of epic proportions. A have now taken my case to Small Claims court and will be send Letter of Demand as directed by the clerk of the court. Summons are pending STAY AWAY FROM THIS BUSINESS!!!

This is an update to my previous review, confirming that after an extremely extended period of time, my garage door has finally been installed. I am relieved that Martie did eventually live up to her promises.
