I made a reservation for 5 nights via booking.com. Umhlanga Holiday Rentals then contacted me to say the payment did not go through so I did an EFT directly to them. Mistake number 1. Thereafter when I contacted booking.com to amend the booking (as my international guest's flight was changed) I was told to deal directly with Umhlanga Holiday Rentals. I reached out to them on Tuesday to ask if the 5 day booking could be split into 4 parts, each 2 nights (so they score a night) but they would not hear of it. On Wednesday I was informed it was too close to check-in (Friday) hence no refund or amendments. This is low season in Umhlanga, I know I am resident local and I run a business in the area. Umhlanga Holiday Rentals would not bend or assist in any way shape or form. I understand Terms & Conditions but I also know a major institution like Nambiti Private Game Reserve happily accommodated me in the same time frame with excellent service. South Africans are famed for their friendliness and customer service, I feel sad that Umhlanga Holiday Rentals has let down my home town so badly. I am disclosing that I will post the same message on all local forums.

Be careful! Booked through bookings.com at one of their properties and paid upfront for 4 nights, arrived the first night to an unsafe, mouldy and dirty property! Walls had mould, door didn’t lock and my kids feet were black from filth. Towels stained, blinds probably never been cleaned. I complained and they came in and then offered me x2 other properties which were not what we wanted or what we initially paid for. They told me a refund wouldn’t be an issue- only to refuse bookings.com to refund. Now they telling me I’m harassing them after trying to contact and having them ignore all my calls! I must remember the POPI act yet they are ****ming me. We arrived at the property to make sure all our belongings were out and there was a team of cleaners and contractors inside! But we are still paying for this property? We handed over the keys after one night stay, I said I would pay for the one night I stayed there but I want a refund for the other 3 and they refuse.

I recently stayed at one of your Ipanema Beach rental apartments—Apt 404 on 2 Lagoon Drive, Umhlanga—checking in on October 4th, based on a Booking.com reservation made by a friend who was staying there with me. However, my experience was far from what I expected due to significant issues with room allocation and mishandling of my personal belongings. There was a mix-up with the room assignments, and it was confirmed on October 5th that I should have been allocated Apt 202, not 404. While I was out, it was agreed that I would move my belongings to Apt 202 upon my return. My friend specifically informed your staff that under no circumstances should my personal items be moved without me being present. However, upon returning to Apt 404, I discovered the door open, new tenants already occupying the space, and my belongings missing. After contacting my friend who had made the booking, we realized that housekeeping had moved my items without my consent, despite the clear instructions not to do so. When I eventually located my belongings in Apt 202, I noticed that everything had been placed in the main bedroom, except for my laptop, which had been left in the living room of Apt 404. Despite numerous calls and back-and-forths to resolve the issue, my laptop remains missing. While Patricia from your team has been helpful, she mentioned she was not in a position to advise on the next steps. I’m left frustrated by the lack of communication and responsibility, especially considering it was your team that moved my belongings and allowed new tenants into the apartment before verifying that all my possessions were accounted for. This experience has been deeply disappointing, and I hope your management team will take the necessary steps to prevent such incidents in the future and assist me in resolving the matter of my missing laptop.

We got to the rental, only to find old linen on the bed. The towels still had lipstick on it. The toilet had no toilet cistern cover (and no way to flush the loo) The walls were in a horrid state. After calling the agent and explaining the issues, he promised a full refund. Only to get a partial refund. No response from the Agent as to the reason why.

The apartment is not family friendly, Umhlanga holiday rentals which is an agency does not let people know that there are permanent residents in other apartments and they don't like kids playing outside, in the pool area even during the day, they complain about noise even if kids are playing inside the apartment.the manager of the apartments is racist,I have a interracial family and he was rude racist to me and my kids only willing to have a dialogue with my wife who is white, we had booked the apartment for three weeks but didn't even spend a single night there.Umhlanga holiday rentals did nothing to help and refused to give our money back.would not recommend to anyone.
