A table of 4 was booked for the picnic. Only 2 of us could make it. There is no indication anywhere that we are committed to pay for 4 picnic baskets, if some of the patrons cannot make it. Although this fact is true, the hostess wanted to charge us for the additional 2 baskets stating that the chef pre makes the baskets and if we do not pay for them, then the cost will fall to the staff. After a little back and forth it was agreed finally to not charge us. With the final statement to me that this is a boutique winery, and I should have known that we would be charged. This left a horrible taste in my mouth and completely ruined the experience for us. I have spoken with many people around this unfortunate event and nobody has heard of the hidden rules for a boutique winery. If this is the venues T&C's for booking, then display this during the booking procedure online. Or, display it ANYWHERE on your website, instead of trying to intimidate your customers to pay with no reference to this condition of service anywhere.

I had the opportunity to visit the venue for winetasting and lunch on a Sunday together with the family. The visit turned into a wow experience from the offset and brought about by the friendly reception of the staff welcoming us. The tasting presentation was done in such a professional manner by our hostess. When it came to the lunch experience, it got even better with the beautiful restaurant (Stables) setting and staff's welcoming friendliness. And the food? Wow,wow, wow! We ended off by walking through parts of the gardens in and around the premises which capped off the totally awesome experience. We'll definitely be back

The website and telephone answering service indicate that ths estate is open . We drove 70km to go have lunch here only to find it closed so don't bother and waste your time going here.

After living in Somerset West for 12 years and driving past Vergelegen a countless number of times - I finally decided to go and see what all the fuss is about when I got a hankering or a summers-day wine tasting. I was expecting it to be a nice venue, but I could never imagine how truly amazing it is with beautiful gardens, forests, architecture, and a welcome-home-vibe. The staff are extremely friendly, well educated about their wines (And everything about the South African wine culture & industry!) and the service is exceptional. We had a magical experience sitting outside on the "stoep" overlooking the gardens while taking in the sunshine. But I could immediately picture an equally amazing experience during winter sitting inside the fantastically cozy tasting room! The wines are amazing - especially when you end off your tasting with their lovely Straw wine (How divine!) I would 100% recommend making this part of your visit anytime you are near Somerset West, and I will definitely be going back soon.

With the beautiful forestry and the fun play area, Vergelegen is a perfect Saturday morning stop for the family. But the rooibos tea milkshake alone is worth the drive. Just remember to pack a bug repellent stick if you're planning on going for a walk after the rain.

Worst service ever! We had 60 senior citizens wanted to visit Vergelegen on their walkingtrials, but Vergelegen said they are not welcome! Can not believd that is how they treat the elderly. would like to send out a boicot for them

Nothing to recommend. Overpriced, unfriendly staff, stupid rules, an entrance fee. Lourensford all the way. 3 girls on a blanket with some food and wine, far away from any other people, connecting happily, and a Sargeant Majoress came out and told us to pack up and go. We hadn't seen the sign at the gate that said "No picnicking" but we were in no-one's way and the estate was quiet. When we asked if we could just finish our glasses of champers and the half eaten sarmies we were told no, and if we didn't pack up right away she would send security. 3 locals who will certainly not be taking guests there in the future. #****Vergelegen #Lourensfordalltheway #yayforRadloffPark.
