I am writing this complaint against Budget Insurance. On the 2nd of February I called them for cancelling my policy. They told me since I am under broker so I have to call the broker. I asked them to transfere call,African Independent broker they did not pick up. They called later but due to bad network they couldn’t get hold of me. They sent email stating that I should call or email. I am living in rural areas. I did not have network to make calls. I wrote an email asking for cancellation of policy. They did not respond. I wrote again on the 11 February asking them to cancel the policy with budget and not debit on my pay day which is 20th. Now I see they have been debited and I can’t reverse it. Meaning they ignored my emails

The one person who helped me mostly is Zelda. My insurance was stressing me so much but I knew that whenever I got Zelda I was going to get some answers. She would even stay on the line herself trying to put me through the insurance’s claim department and then call me back once she gets them on the line. Even the processing of my excess cover took about 1 working day. I am not happy about the way the insurance dragged my case, but I am thankful to the broker Zelda for always trying her best.

I wish I had read the reviews on this insurance brokers before I signed with them. Having been a customer at another insurance company for years, I was accustomed to a certain level of service. It has taken almost 4 months to get a claim processed. In that time, the bank is still demanding payments for a vehicle I no longer am in possession of. Do yourself a favour, do not sign up with these people for anything!

I am extremely disappointed with African Independent Brokers. In mid-November 2025, I pro-actively contacted them to ensure my policy was up to date. I spoke with Zandile Nxumalo, who explicitly confirmed that my documents were in order. My debit orders were going off regularly, and she even sent me a policy schedule affirming that everything was active and up to date. A week or two later, my windscreen was hit by a stone. When I attempted to claim, the claim was rejected on the basis that my policy was "not up to date"—directly contradicting the written proof and verbal confirmation I was given just days prior. The back-and-forth was exhausting and unprofessional. I’ve ended up driving with a cracked windscreen and will now be paying for the repairs out of my own pocket. I have since cancelled my policy and moved to a different insurer. If you want peace of mind that your claim will actually be honored when you need it, look elsewhere.

I took an insurance called affinity affordable through them when I bought a car. With the understanding that my car is covered the minute it leaves the dealership. My car had an accident in December, hit by a wild animal. I reported the accident and made a claim. They assigned an an assessor to inspect the damages of the vehicle, the assessor told me I must just send pictures of the car, I live too far so they won’t come. I emphasised that my car could be seriously damaged in some parts of the engine, but they dismissed and said it will be a digital assessment. My claim got rejected because my damages are below access, there was not even a transparency of what they quoted to reach that decision. They rejected my claim and told me to fix my own vehicle. I took my car to panelbeaters and they found damages on my engine as had thought, more than 60k of damages, and even made a quote for me. This broker could not even make means to ensure my case is fairly conducted and concluded. They didn’t assist in at least making sure a physical assessment is done, or confronting their referred insurance to take responsibility for what they promised to their clients. I urge people to never insure with anything that has to do with this broker. Especially affinity with their poor service and non communication. They exploit their clients. And when they have to pay, they add penalties they never told you about when you took the insurance.
