Stay away from Barestep South Africa
I purchased a pair of Barestep shoes for my husband in September 2025 for his birthday. He absolutely loved them & they really helped with the pain in his feet. However, barely 3 months later these shoes had holes in the bottom & in the fabric. They advertise these shoes as orthopedic shoes & even for running etc. & he had never even run in them, used them purely for walking. I emailed them beginning of January regarding this & they initially responded, however I have had no response from them at all since then & I have emailed them several times since. They have basically just gone quiet & ignored me, which is highly disappointing since my husband actually liked the shoes & it was a birthday present.. Unfortunately their shoes don't last longer than 3months in my case with very little wear on them & their customer service is extremely poor. I would NOT recommend these shoes for that reason.

Unreliable customer service

Sizes change without notice and returned items is not replaced. No feedback.
RMA9247916 for order #BS54152. I have purchased shoes from Barestep twice before, the first time the size was correct, the second time the size was incorrect and it was exchanged without issue. In December 2025 I again bought shoes, the same as the first time, but this time the size was not the same and I had to send it back for an exchange, I had to pay an additional R200 for the exchange, they send me an email saying that they received the returned items on 21 January 2026, I have send multiple emails and have heard nothing since. No reply, no explanation.

No communication and no customer satisfaction or after sales service
I ordered the 2 for one promo. One for me and one for my Mom. My one is one size to big and i just wanted to exchange for exactly same shoe but one size smaller. This shoe has never been worn by me except for fitting it that one time. I have sent varies emails, requested a refund on the site as one is suppose to do various times. With no response. I have sent emails since after I received my order. From 12 Dec 2025 till 2 Feb 2026. It seems to be impossible to exchange to the size that will fit me. I dont think I will do business with this company again.

BareStep shoes are let down by lack of admin follow up!
I enjoy BareStep shoes and between my partner and myself we have bought numerous pairs, and enjoyed tremendous comfort. However, our most recent order in December showed that their admin is not as good as their footwear. For whatever reason, the shoes that were delivered to us were too small and couldn't be worn by either of us. I have sent them four -mails requesting that they collect the shoes that don't fit and replace them with shoes one size larger. I have had no response. I'm unable to wear the shoes or to find a phone number to engage with someone at BareStep in an effort to resolve the situation. At this stage I'm out of pocket and have 2 new pairs of shoes in my cupboard. Les Cohen

Don't buy from them!
I ordered a special with them for R1279 (2 pairs and 2 inners). I received it about 3 weeks later. Up to that point it was not too bad, just slow. The sizes weren't according to the sizing guide and I contact them to process a swap out. That took another 2 weeks, but they collected it. I received confirmation that the return was received, and that it will take 5-7 days to process. It's been 3 weeks and no matter how many follow up mails I've sent I haven't received a single reply. I've had to start a dispute process with the bank because they still have my money and I don't have any product. I've informed them to cancel the return and just refund, but I assume you can guess that I've not received any reply from them. It's places like this that breaks trusts in small businesses. Don't use them.

This is a **** - I placed an order on 22 November 2025 - Order #BS53742 for two pairs of their Barestep Active 3.0 shoes and paid a total of R1779. There was apparently an issue with the delivery but I never received any notices from the courier and I have still not recieved any reply from them. Someone answered my first email in early December and after that they have just been ignoring my emails asking for either the shoes to be delivered or a refund. Just checked the invoice now, they even charge R79.99 for shipping protection ???
