Dr Makan is honestly the BEST!!
Dr Gita Makan is simply amazing. From day one she was sooo crating and understanding and informative. She helped me through my thyroid storm. Helped sort out my meds and has honestly gona above and beyond for me. She refuses my script over email and checks my bloods every few months at no additional cost. She even helps me fill out my disability cover docs to claim for when I can’t work. When I go visit her she spends a lot of time finding out about how I am not just physically but mentally and helps with my weight. I honestly could not recommend her more. She’s such a kind caring soul. I love her! I have only great things to say about her!

I have been a patient of Dr. Gita Makan for 10 years. Being a Diabetic Type 1 for 23 years, I was introduced to Dr. Makan in January 2014 when I was admitted in hospital, as much as i thought i knew my condition and that i can control it, i couldn't. After consulting with Dr. Makan, i had a better understanding of what needed to be done and that i have someone who understands my situation, knows what to look and guiding me to better manage my Diabetes. In my years of being a patient of Dr. Makan, she has shown professionalism, understanding, caring and knowledge to help me manage and avoid complications. Regards. Diabetic Ant

Didn't take me seriously. Didn't listen to what I was telling her. Didn't care, she left the hospital room suddenly and in a hurry and I didn't see or hear from her again. I have Hashimoto's and I'm going through a flare up. It's not the first time I've had her as my endo and she didn't listen the first time either. Never again.

Didn't take me seriously. Didn't listen to what I was telling her. Didn't care, she left the hospital room suddenly and in a hurry and I didn't see or hear from her again. Steer Clear
This is my second attempt to write a review of Dr Gita Makan. Hello Peter deleted the first without reason. I will summarise as I have taken my complaint to a higher authority. I visited Dr Makan to clear the status of my male/female hormones so as to decide whether a hormonal treatment for acne would be appropriate or not. The receptionist repeatedly told me she is new and does not know how the process works and would not cooperate with the labs I was sent to for testing. Many vials of blood were taken, and I had no idea what these were all for and I was quite disturbed. This resulted in a massive bill for which I am currently being harassed because between the labs and medical aid have no cooperation from the practise. Moreover, after revisiting a message sent from the doctors iPhone, I recently discovered that Dr Makan had sent me for unneccsary genetic and auto-immune testing. The unreasonable tests must be why the bill is extensive. We are all so perplexed as to why she would subject me to such testing despite no health complaints at all. Dr Makan clearly had personal reasons and/or agenda and did not even address the concern I visited her practise for.

A form of abuse
My mom found Dr Gita Makan to possibly help me find out if the cause of my acne is hormonal. As an endocrinologist the scope of her specialty should be obvious but Dr Makan subjected me to so many unnecessary autoimmune related tests. Despite the fact that I’m an athlete and had no other complaints she insisted on entertaining the idea of an autoimmune condition. The tests found nothing out of the ordinary, but she also subjected my mom and sister who visited her, to multiple autoimmune disorder related tests. There was no history of any such disorders in our entire family history. Dr Makan is clearly looking for something that is not there. And creating concerns that never existed before. For the tests, she insisted I use Lancet labs even though I had used Ampath in the past. Her secretary refused to provide a authorisation code and had no knowledge of the testing process. The labs tried to communicate with the secretary but the practise would not communicate with anyone after they’d been paid by me. Now I am being harassed by Ampath to pay for all these useless tests out of pocket because we could not get cooperation from her practise. The medical aid will only pay for the tests if they receive cooperation but they refuse any. The experience I had is a form of abuse.

Not happy
I thought Dr Makan was a good Dr . She cared in the beginning when Dr ballantine referred me to her she this week told me she isn't my physician that Dr Ballantine is in a rude manner on email. I am so disappointed because now I need to find a new Endocrinologist as I need someone who specialises in my condition with calcium... Very angry patient
