I purchased Dulux’s so-called luxurious silk paint in Chiseled Grey, and what an absolute disappointment. The colour displayed in-store versus the result on my wall is completely different—to the point where it feels misleading. After raising this with Makro, Vernon (the store manager) attempted to “fix” the issue by adding colourant to lighten the paint. The result? Still dark and unusable. I was then told that adding more colourant would “affect the quality of the paint.” To make matters worse, I was initially expected to purchase white paint at my own cost just to try and correct a problem that was never of my making. So I am now stuck with expensive paint I am unhappy with, a problem created by inaccurate in-store representation and handled with complete indifference. Vernon and his manager at Makro Cornubia were entirely unhelpful, dismissive, and offered no meaningful solution. Dulux customer service was no better—Dineo was equally unhelpful, showing zero accountability for a premium product that clearly does not deliver on its promise. For a brand that charges a premium, Dulux is grossly overrated and not worth the price. The paint is marketed as silk yet dries as a matt finish, which is completely unacceptable. This was an absolute waste of money. Ironically, Plascon is cheaper and far superior in both quality and consistency. As for Makro Cornubia, this is the second time I’ve had serious issues. Previously, they took my grass-cutting machine for repairs, still have it to this day, failed to fix it, and then had the audacity to demand additional payment. Between incompetence, poor service, and zero accountability, I will never purchase from Makro again. The customer service from both Makro and Dulux is appalling

On 26 Nov 2025, I bought a 5 liter can of paint from this shop and realised afterwards that I am not going to use it. I did not open the can and returned it to the shop on 5 December, as not used and I was informed by a clerk in the shop, that I will be refunded. On 10 December I spoke to the owner of the shop, Rudi van Schalkwyk, about this matter and he said that he will refund me. Today is 19 December and he still has not yet refunded me and I did not receive any further communication from him, regarding this matter.

After recently painting my home with 2 colours of weatherguard and 3 coats of each, the one colour left terrible streak marks after a short rainfall (the other was 100% fine). After complaining to my builder who did the painting and to Dulux locally in Cape Town - they sent a representative to check it. She took a lot of pictures, measured the walls for moisture, poured water on the walls, etc. After a number of further questions regarding my water proofing, etc) - which were unhelpful as walls without the water proofing and walls with it had the same issue, and those with the other colour are all 100%. The solution: wait 3 months and it should go.... wash the walls down then and it should be fine. I then tried to contact Dulux customer service - good luck if you try that. No response. Very poor.

Absolutely unacceptable! Dulux clearly has no idea what white means. Their so-called “Brilliant White” WeatherGuard is nothing more than a yellowish off-white (and that's the most expensive paint) - completely misleading and not even close to what’s shown on the container or advertised. For a company that claims to be a leader in paint, this is a disgraceful misrepresentation of colour accuracy. Either they need new quality control staff or a dictionary to remind them what white actually looks like.

Dulux maxi cover pva is the worst paint I have ever bought. My kitchen is white but needed a paint. So I painted it white again. I had to paint 3 and 4 coats. Milk from the spar would have been better.
