Myself and my mom went to Epson Seafood on crescent Street overport on 14 March 2025. To purchase Fish Roe and Mussel Cracker fish. Once there the owner said to another customer that they don't keep fish overnight, everyday they freshly cut clean and slice the fish. We are waiting for the guys to cut the fish we wanted. nothing happening they are busy cutting Brarcuda no sign the requested fish. Now I see the guy is unpacking previously cut and packed fish into a dish and slicing the fish to make thinner pieces for us as customers to believe it's freshly cut. The other customer seeing they taking so long decides to leave and wowla the owner sees that and says ma there is the fish freshly cut and packed for her. She was confused she took fish then I said he is lying they are unpacking yesterday packs and repacking them for sale. The owner got angry wud me for saying that he said I must not come back to his store

Horrible customer service from Epsom seafood- Neil. I have no idea what’s his designation at Epsom seafood. I called in today to complain about the L1 King prawns- buy 2, get 1 free. I purchased the prawns on Saturday at around 3pm and put it straight into my freezer when I got home. We decided to grill the prawns today (Tuesday at 3:29pm) and we noticed that the prawns were horribly stale. The prawn meat was brown and it just didn’t taste right. I called Epsom Seafood immediately and an extremely rude person by the name of Neil answered the phone. I explained the situation to him and told him that we are currently preparing the prawns and this is our findings. He then began to cross question me by asking me why I didn’t bring the prawns through on Sunday morning if I knew something was wrong. I had to explain to him in simple English that we are literally preparing the prawns now and didn’t prepare it on Sunday. He then went on to tell me that load shedding caused this. I told him that we don’t experience load shedding. He asked me where I stayed and personal questions which I didn’t appreciate making it seem like I was at fault. He then had the nerve to further asked me what I intend on doing with the cooked prawns, do I want to continue cooking it or eating it?!!?!?! Is this the way you treat customers if there’s a complaint? That is completely unprofessional and you really can’t put the blame on your customers if your seafood is not fresh. I feel that this could have been handled in a better, professional manner. If this is how they treat their customers then I certainly will never buy from them again!!!!!!!

Hi I have been supporting Epsom Seafoods from the day they first opened in Sparks Road and spend on average a minimum of 3k per visit. On this occasion I had bought 2 x 2kg prawns, crab and some fish etc the week of the 16th June 2023. I grilled one box of the prawns and curried the other. The box of grilled prawns was all soft, mushy and was stuck to the shell once grilled. This means the prawns were stale. The other box seemed ok when i shelled them to be curried so i cannot comment on its freshness. I had visitors over for early supper on the 16th. The grilled prawns was terrible but nonetheless we kind off salvaged what we could. By the way it was selling for R450 per box obviously discounted as i bought 2 boxes. On the 7th July i went to the shop and again to buy crab, prawns, fish etc. I told the guys on the floor about my experience with the previous lot i bought and asked them if i can return the prawns if i find it stale. They said they don't know and i must ask the 2 gentlemen behind the counter and suggested that i take prawns a little cheaper that just came in the day before, which i did. While waiting for my crab to be cleaned i went to the counter to tell the gentlemen about my last purchase and ask if i can return the item if stale. Instead of getting an apology and him saying yes you can or no you cannot he started questioning me about why am i complaining now and why did i not call them immediately or bring the cooked item in etc. So i try explaining that i had visitors and could not stop mid supper and say i am taking it back to the shop or ask them not to eat etc. I also tried to tell him that i dont think they were even open at that time but instead he went at me telling me its already in my head so i am going to say its stale and a whole lot of other stories. He also then said that i should rather go buy elsewhere. It was then that the argument got heated and the other workers in the shop joined saying i am shouting and i must leave the shop and again go buy elsewhere. It was at this point i realized that they were not interested in having happy customers as it was evident that they did not care about their customers feedback or experience with their products. The purpose of my long story is to warn people about Epsom Seafoods and their attitude towards your feedback. It was a very simple question of "can i return the products if it is stale" but it turned out into an argument and most definitely loss of business to them as i am ensuring my experience is know to all. There are many other seafood shops in the area but i chose to shop with them. I will now shop at the other shops. Also this is not the first time that i bought seafood that was stale as previously i had an issues with prawns and crab but on different occasions. I didn't even get to mention this but yes it has happened previously.

So disappointed with the products recently purchased. I bought a few items but the tray of hake was spoiled. I am a regular customer and terribly saddened by the dishonesty of the store

Dear Friends and Family, it saddens me to report that, on Saturday, 15/08/20 , I became a victim of Woman Abuse, I decided to write about this on social media to spread the word and to disgrace perpetrators such as these. On the morning of 15 August 2020 I went to Epsom Seafood on Crescent Street, Durban, where I usually get my seafood. I arrived around 9am and I was the only customer in the shop. I chose a large fish and asked for the assistant to fillet the fish for me. When I was handed the filleted fish in two trays, I realised that I should have had it cut into portions. The owner/ manager was next to me, so I asked him if I could have the fish cut into portions. He said that this will cost more which I found strange, as I was just asking for the fish to be cut into smaller pieces. I then asked why it would cost more and he was immediately rude and aggressive and replied that cutting the fish into smaller pieces would involve more cost as there’s more plastic and packaging involved. I found this bizarre considering the amount of seafood I was buying, and have over many years bought from this store. I then said that this reasoning would lead to a loss of customers. This response from me, a 64 year old woman by herself in the store, led to an unimaginable outburst from the individual. He immediately grabbed my trolley and pushed it away with such force that had I still been holding onto it would have certainly resulted in a very nasty fall. He then followed this aggression with a tirade of profanities the likes of which I have never ever been called in my life and which disgust me to even write. He flew into a blind rage as I looked on in absolutely stunned silence. I was paralyzed with fear and indeed feared for my safety. I was then surrounded by about 4 men and his security guard, who put his hand on my shoulder to escort me out of the store. I had to ask him to unhand me as I was leaving. As I was leaving the store, doing my best not to burst into tears, the individual followed me almost to my car continuing his assault and began taking pictures of my car. If merely asking for the fish to be cut has thrown this individual into such animalistic and demonic rage I absolutely fear what this individual is capable of now that he has taken pictures of my car. I have never in my life been subjected to such verbal abuse and assault which was totally unwarranted (not that there ever is a reason for such contempt vulgarity). My human rights have been infringed upon by the abuse that I suffered. It was denigrating on the base of my gender. The abuser is male and he used the fact that I am a woman to hurl gender-specific abuse at me, which is even more abhorrent considering its women's month. I had tried reporting this over the phone to the police as I am concerned about going into public places given the prevalence of Covid-19, however the police were of no help in assisting me to report this as an act of assault (given the fact that numerous threats made and pictures of me and my car taken). This kind of behaviour towards women has to STOP.

Bought a packet of 800 gm nett, peeled and deveined prawns for R 220.00 . Turns out there was only 579 gm of prawns and the rest water. That works out to R 275.00 per litre of water. The owner said i should take the matter with the supplier , namely RIZ seafoods, as he does not have the time. Guess what, no more Epsom or RIZ products for me and those i know. Anyone who concurs, do your thing.

On the 31/10/2018 while do monthly shopping I stopped at epsom seafood in crescent street overport to buy some seafood. I purchased some crab which was frozen at the time. I brought it home and put it in the freezer. On the morning of 17/11/2018 I took the crab out to defrost. Once the crab was defrost I started to clean it and got a shock at the condition of it. Inside the crab was black there was no meat in it. I called Epsom and got no joy the guy in the store said theres nothing he can do because I had the product with me and he doesn't know the condition of my freezer.... That doesn't explain the fact that the crab is black with no meat and he tells me i'm making no sense
