So…a bone in a deboned chicken burger from Gibsons at the waterfront, one & a half months later & 6, maybe more, phone calls to the store with a promise that someone will get back to me & now hellopeter… Expect better Gibsons

My son and I went for lunch on Wednesday at Gibson's Gourmet Burgers & Ribs. Gibsons is his favorite restaurant and has been for the past 11+ years. I treat him every year on his birthday to have his favorite Long Island burger. This has been the first time we visited the restaurant since 2020 lockdown and we were both very disappointed. The size of the burgers have shrunk to that of a junior burger, bearing in mind that the price you pay is still that of a Rolls Royce Burger. Even though we had voiced our disappointment to the manager on duty, the more I think of it the more disappointed I am at Gibsons. (The manager on duty assured us that the size of the burgers are still the same, but it's definitely not!) Being our favorite restaurant, we want to support them and we truly want their business to flourish, but after what we experienced yesterday... I'm not sure if I'll be back or refer anyone to Gibsons again. Paying R500 for a meal, I really expect value for money. We are locals and not international tourists. R500 is a half tank of fuel. So many years of such beautiful experiences and memories at Gibsons and now this?? Wednesday was a special occasion for my son and I as it was our last meal together before he immigrates to Dubai. What a disappointment. I searched my photo galery for a photo I took before lockdown of a Long Island burger my son had. The size of the Long Island burger then and what he had yesterday one cannot even compare. The menus and photos on their website and social media are deceiving as it portrays the big burgers they used to serve at Gibsons. Our Rolls Royce Long Island burger is now the size of a regular Spur burger. This is truly disappointing. My day was spoilt as all I wanted to do was to treat my son for his last meal at his favorite restaurant eating his favorite burger. What an epic fail! Not a good experience or memory of what was supposed to be a special occasion. I can't stand it when businesses do this to consumers, keep the prices the same, but decreasing the size of their product. So deceitful. I sent them a message on Messanger and via email, but have not received a response. I guess they know that they have decrease the size of their burgers and can't argue my point. I guess they rely on the international tourists to visit their restaurant as an once off. Gibson's doesn't really care about the local market.

I decided to go with a friend to Gibson. Never knew they had joined forces with Balduccis. No problem. I ordered a deep fried onion flower shaped flower. It came hot, but slightly over salted. I then ordered a mushroom burger. Oddly enough, the main course came then the starter. I know it should be the other way around. Mabey the waitress made a mistake. Cool. Then I ate the mushroom burger, which was very tasty but size has shrunk since my last encounter with Gibson. Then it was huge, now it competes with Spur. Now one gets less and pays for more. The drinks were cold and frankly speaking, these days restaurants dish out food that's tasty but portions either has shrunk or cost more. Gibson won't see me anymore. Restaurant managers:charging more for less does not work. Keeping your portions the same will definitely bring customers back time and time again.

If you're after succulent burgers or ribs or the biggest selection of milk shakes in the country, then you can't go wrong by visiting Gibsons at the V & A Waterfront. It is such a pity that its sister restaurant Balduccis is no longer with us but, hopefully, Gibsons will be around for many years to come. It certainly deserves to be. You can't beat Gibsons for its succulent burgers and for ribs that literally fall off the bone. To top it all, the service is superb and the location unbeatable. Virus or no virus, THIS is the REAL BURGER KING for me!

It is so nice to find businesses who put their clients first especially in these challenging times. Like many restaurants, the Slick Restaurant Group (aka Gibsons and Balduccis) have a loyalty programme to incentivise customers. Typically, you accumulate points with every meal and are rewarded with a birthday voucher. Unfortunately, some restaurants have suspended their loyalty programmes, mainly out of necessity. One notable exception is the Slick Restaurant Group. Because of this... but also for other reasons......, Gibsons and Balduccis are easily my favourite restaurants. Their location at the Waterfront is unbeatable; the service is good; the meals are excellent and their prices very reasonable. Of course, their loyalty programme is second to none. What's more, if there is a query, they don't hesitate to give their customers the benefit of the doubt. This is one restaurant chain that comes highly recommended.
