I bought a used Speed Queen washing machine and I have used it for about 18 months. The machine was 4 years old at the time of purchase. I have used Lead Laundry and Catering in MOUNT EDGECOMBE, DURBAN for repairs and parts. I have performed repairs on three occasions and replaced the drain pump, PCB (computer board), main bearing & seals, drive bell housing and the drive belt. The cost of the various repairs is R18,000. This washing machine is branded as "Commercial Heavy Duty." But, in my experience it is no better than a cheap Chinese import. I believe the product was good 20 years ago, but sadly today it is no longer reliable. I have not worked the machine hard. It does two loads per week in my home. My experience with the South African agent is even worse than the product. I sent the machine to Lead for repair when the PCB became faulty. They misdiagnosed the fault and charged me for a new pump and lid lock, but these components were working! Later when I needed a new drive belt, they supp**** the wrong belt even though I had provided the model and serial numbers. This was two weeks ago. I have returned the belt and continue to fight with them to refund the cost of the part. Spare yourself the pain and frustration and stay away from Lead Laundry.

Nelspruit branch: Found on the internet one night when searching for speed queen washing machine repairs. They returned my query early the next working day. Their call out/assessment fee was reasonable. Their technicians arrived less than an hour after I had paid the fee. The admin lady Nothando was efficient, professional, and friendly. The two technicians app**** their professional knowledge to give me an immediate opinion. They also gave valuable advice regarding my speedqueen tumbledrier while here. Can definitely recommend!

I am writing to formally express my dissatisfaction and concern regarding a Speed Queen 10.5kg stainless steel drum top-loader washing machine (Model: LWS21NW | Serial Number: 2210001827 | Date of Purchase: 24 May 2023) that I purchased from Lategan & Van Biljoens in Pretoria. After conducting thorough research, I chose to invest in this machine based on the brand’s strong reputation for durability, reliability, and long-term performance. I paid R19,000 for what I expected to be a heavy-duty, high-quality household appliance. Unfortunately, my experience has been far from satisfactory. In March 2025—less than two years after purchase—the machine began malfunctioning. I initially contacted Lategan & Van Biljoens and was informed that the warranty on the product was only one year. Upon disputing this, I was referred to Lead Laundry & Catering, who confirmed that the machine is indeed covered by a two-year warranty. Following my complaint, a technician from Lead was dispatched to inspect the unit. I must commend him for his excellent service. He identified a faulty timer, which was replaced at no additional cost under the warranty. However, following a full inspection of the machine, I was presented with a list of additional parts deemed "faulty," with a quotation totaling R3,173.49 (including VAT) for parts and labour—none of which, I was told, are covered by the warranty. The list of parts quoted includes: 1. Spring for Idler (Blue) x1 2. Pulley (Wheel) Idler x1 3. Shaft Idler x1 4. Washer, Flat Non-Ferrous Felt (.447) x2 5. Ring Friction x1 6. Belt, Agitate & Spin (Green Label) x1 7. Labour x1.5 This level of mechanical failure in such a short time—particularly for a premium appliance that has only been used for standard household laundry twice a week—is deeply disappointing. I escalated the matter to management at Lead, only to be told that “it is what it is” and that the only way forward is to pay the quoted amount for the repairs. This response has left me both frustrated and bewildered. I believe I have been misled about the quality and durability of this machine. I expected significantly more from a brand like Speed Queen, and I feel let down as a consumer who made a considered and costly purchase in good faith. At this point, I kindly request further escalation of this matter. I believe that the failure of so many components within the warranty period should be addressed under the manufacturer’s commitment to quality. I am not seeking anything unreasonable—only the assurance that the product I purchased meets the standards it is advertised to uphold. I would appreciate a formal response to this complaint and a resolution that reflects Speed Queen’s reputation and responsibility to its customers.

I bought 2 so called industrial Tullis machines in 2022 from Lead Laundry. This was from an advise and recommendation from the sales person. It is notbeven 24 months but I have had endless problems with these machines that are supposed to be industrial. They are expensive for nothing as they are made from cheap plastic parts that looks like metal and which they claim is heat resistant. Then they are so expensive to replace ....clearly just a money making scheme from Leads. My heart is bleeding because I thought I was buying brand new machines for my new business and it was the worst business decision to buy from leads. The after sales service is also a mission because the technicians are not available on weekends which is our busiest time of the week for the laundry. Then they promise to come then they don't come without any explanation. Right now I'm sitting with dead machines and I've paid for the parts to be replaced and the expensive call out fees but no one has come out even after i had promises that they will come. This means anotherbweekend without machines....How do I run a laundry business without machines....Lead laundry is just a killer of small businesses and they are just after money and care less if at all about their customers. I just don't see myself purchasing any more machines from Lead in the future..!

What a shocking experience, I needed someone to fix my leaky washing machine, having used this company 5 years ago I never hesitated to contact them, to my surprise they refused to come out until I paid upfront for labour and call out , then after the faulty part was repaired the technician proceeded to convince me to replace a whole lot of additional parts that were still working due to the machine being old, which would have cost me the same as a new machine ! After that he refused to leave until I paid the cost of the part despite not being able to send me the invoice for this, not only that they were quick to take my money for the call out and sloppy to arrange a technician to come out , I had to phone and nag them and only once I asked for them to refund my money if they were not prepared to come out did a technician call me the following day for a booking

I recently contacted this company via a recommendation, however, to my dismay this is a rip off company, I paid them a call out fee of R 1000.50, and the then quoted me R over R 7000/00 rands to repair my machine, and they never turned up until I paid the repair amount in full. I was away oversea, my accountant handled the payments. when they refused to come out, she call in MTV appliances who she paid R 500/00 call out and complete repairs with grantee for R 2220.00. Please, don't even go near this company called Lead Laundry and Catering , they are a bunch of rip off Edendale thieves from the East rand.
