On June 15, 2024, I received over 10 harassing calls from Newtons Attorneys regarding an outstanding amount of R1900 on my Absa credit card, which I have been diligently paying. Despite being in a meeting, they persistently called, even contacting my friends and disclosing my private financial matters. This is a clear violation of the POPI Act. I have never denied my debt and have been making regular payments, so I do not understand this harassment. When Busisiwe Majubane called, I asked why she was contacting me and sharing my personal financial details with others. She claimed Absa provided a file with various contact numbers and they were unsure which to dial. She assured me that she had deleted the unnecessary numbers, retaining only my two main numbers, including my work line and email address. To my dismay, today she called those numbers again, showing impatience despite my previous compliance. I work in a corporate environment, often in meetings, and cannot always answer calls immediately. We had agreed that the payment due date is the 17th of each month. However, I have already received four text messages and numerous calls before the due date. It is unfortunate that my long-standing relationship with Absa, spanning over 20 years, is ending on such a sour note. This conduct is entirely unacceptable.

I called in requesting a balance on my accounts, on the 8th Feb I received an email qouting me the settlement amount and the discounts applied, valid until 28 Feb 2023. I made payment on the 18th Feb 2023 as per email. In the week that followed I was hounded by Capital data MBD and Newtons Attorney agents calling me demanding payment. I have informed them that I did make payment and provded proof of payment. In the weeks that followed and to date I am still receiving calls demanding payment. I spoke to Nazeera, whom I explained the story to again last week and she asked me to send an email to Samantha, apparently Samantha deals with these sort of queries. Samantha has still not contacted me yet I am getting calls still demanding payment. I am not sure what is happening at the company but I have one more account that is still with them and would like to settle it but I am not getting any hope as they refuse to give me a proof of account closure letter and insist I still pay more money than I was emailed to pay. Please assist, I am annoyed and frustrated

I have been harassed by Wilma from Newtons Attorneys today for an account that is not in my name. The extremely rude Wilma went as far as to give me attitude, demanding that I must have employed the person she referred to and that is why my number is on his account! The irony is I don't even own a business to employ somebody! I confronted her and advised her that I will be reporting their business to the POPI Act as I did not authorize them contacting me, at which point she threw down the phone in my ear. I tried being polite and explain why I am not the person she's looking for. I will not accept this abuse by a total stranger giving me attitude for somebody else's account and will report them to the Information Regulator if they contact me again illegally. Get your facts straight first before contacting me again for somebody else! What's worse, Hello Peter is FULL of reviews for this business and their cruel consultants throwing down the phone on clients and speaking to them like they are rubbish.

These people are extremely annoying. We have been facing a pandemic for the past year now. And all they are interested in is getting money out of people. Seems like Absa is getting really desperate for their money. I have been unemployed since the start of pandemic. These people need to learn to leave us alone

Do these people realize that the Country has been in lock down for 8 months so yes I got behind in my payments which I am catching up on. I get a phone call today from a very rude lady who says I must confirm details I told her to tell me what she has on file to prevent fraud on my details she put the phone down on me. there is obviously a communication problem between ABSA and the Attorneys.

I find these guys to be really destructive. We have just come through a pandemic that was hard on all of us, where I even lost my business. The banks are inconsiderate and before Newtons was LGR attorneys. ABSA denied sending LGR attorneys after me for money and LGR said ABSA gave the go ahead, so what's up with Newtons, are they playing games too with peoples lives. The economy is wrecked and so is my pocket, if I gave any money, I would practically become a vagrant and just another issue to the system to deal with. Is that what these attorneys work at doing? Creating homeless people and even in a pandemic work even harder at it?
