We prepaid for a valentines buffet dinner at Oscars Cafe in Essenwood. When we got there, there were about 100 people packed into a tiny space. The food was finished by the time we were ready to eat after a drink, this was by 7pm! There were no clean plates nor cutlery by that time. We paid for a menu promising a host of dishes, all we got was the remains of a rice dish. I have pictures to prove this. We asked for a refund and were given such rude attitude by the staff. We asked for the owner, but the staff refused to call her. She was probably at her lovely Valentines dinner elsewhere! We left without eating. We have been trying ever since to get a refund but they keep giving us the run around and the owner has still not surfaced to explain or apologise despite numerous attempts to speak with her. Worst service and dining experience ever! They ruined valentines day for my friends and I, and we certainly will never go back to Oscars at Essenwood.

I booked a special buffet dinner that Oscars in Essenwood was offering after seeing an advert in the media. My gf and I was looking forward for the evening because it was Valentines day. Unfortunately the restaurant was not what I expected, they experienced load shedding and thus resulted to the food being cold. being it valentines and knowing about load shedding, Oscars should of been prepared by having back up generators. there were also flies around and the place was dirty. The restaurant was expected to be upmarket given that it is situated in an upmarket area but it wasn't.. The place was overcrowded and there was a long que to the buffet, when we eventually got to the buffet and looked at the food condition, we decided to leave. I asked for a refund but they refused. We left hungry and tried to go elsewhere for a meal but every place was fully booked and crowded. At the end, we had to settle for a steers burger. It was our first valentine and it turned out to be a disaster. This restaurant tends to put on a classy front but it is far from it! I want my R300 back from the restaurant!

A three course valentine's dinner for two, with an eat as much as you like buffet for the main course, was advertised by Oscar's Resturant in Stephen Dlamini Road (ex Essenwood Road) Durban via Groupon. We booked with a table of 18 other friends. Patrons had been lied to in that there were no starters. The restaurant was completely overbooked to the point that it was almost impossible to move between tables to get to the Buffet. By 7:30pm the food on the buffet had run out (there was rice and potatoes from a curry left when I got to the buffet table at 7:15pm). My wife and I ate no starter and no main course. The staff on hand said that the owner was not available for complaints. Demands for a refund of monies paid were denied by the staff present and the many angry patrons were asked to write their complaints on scraps of paper for the owner. Patrons were then told that there was no dessert either. After many complaints by patrons staff announced that trifle would be served. Small bowls of trifle and ice-cream then appeared. There was insufficient cutlery and crockery for guests resulting in patrons waiting for glasses and plates, which were coming out of the kitchen wet
