We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Dr Talma and the entire team at Pretoria Eye Institute for the incredible care my husband received during his recent emergency surgery. What could have been an extremely stressful and traumatic experience was handled with professionalism, compassion, and unwavering dedication. Late on a Friday evening, we encountered unexpected medical aid authorisation delays. Instead of postponing the procedure or rushing through matters, the entire team went above and beyond. The anaesthesiologist and theatre staff adjusted their personal plans and stayed late while waiting for approval. They even assisted us in navigating the authorisation process to ensure that it was finalised so that the surgery could proceed safely. After the procedure, the nurses continued monitoring my husband until after 9pm. There was no sense of frustration, no rushing, and absolutely no compromise in care. Every staff member remained calm, supportive, and professional despite the late hour. In today’s world, it is rare to experience this level of dedication and humanity. What we received was more than just medical service — it was genuine care. We are deeply grateful and would highly recommend Dr. Talma and the Pretoria Eye Institute to anyone needing expert and compassionate treatment.

My 77-year-old mother was treated with the utmost disrespect by the Admin Staff of Dr Alic Jacobsz. She was verbally abused by Yvette and refused by them to speak to the doctor to express her dissatisfaction

Doctor Eben Laubscher attended to my 82-year old Grandma this morning for a Lucentis injection, by all means necessary everyone knows to treat the elderly with respect and human decency but not this doctor, he was in such a rush to get to his next patient to chase money he did not explain anything properly to her, her eye started bleeding which is very worrisome for a 82 year old patient, he just did not take the time to explain to her why and rudely said it is normal. She has been getting these injections for many years with another doctor and it has never bled before, and an explanation more than it is normal would have been appreciated as she is currently in a very bad state of mind due to this. As well as getting medication after the injection which he did not give because he feels its outdated. The way he spoke to my husband and Grandma while they were there was utterly disrespectful, and I urge members of the public to please rather go to another doctor for their eyes, you will leave this practice feeling utterly disrespected and that you are just another number that pays and lines his pockets. Disgusting service, I urge you Doctor Laubscher to rather get into another profession as you sir are in a profession where you need to tend and care for patients and clearly this is not your best quality or should I say it is not even a mediocre quality for you.

After the second consultation with dr. A Jacobsz at Pretoria Eye institute, I was booked for a laser procedure to be done on both my eyes the following week. I received instructions to collect the TTO and pre- medication prior to admission from an outside pharmacy and then to pay R30 000 before the procedure can be carried out, same done. On the day of booked procedure, I went through the entire admission procedure, even had to take the pre-medication, just to be told after 2 hours by dr. A Jacobsz that he wasn't going to perform the procedure today. They will phone me in the new year to reschedule as I am too heavy for the theatre bed. It was a big surprise to me as well as the nursing staff as they have the weight limit as 135 kg. This, after I informed him previously during my 2nd consultation in his rooms, I weigh 132 kg, and he assured me it is okay as the weight limit is 135 kg. And when I reminded him that he said my weight is not a problem, the dr. requested that the RN weigh me again this time without my shoes, then my weight was recorded as 130.8 kg. Apparently, I am 0.8 kg too heavy for the procedure to be executed, as the new weight limit is 130 kg and 0.8 kg are going to break their bed. This unfortunately, give the impression that dr. Jacobsz does not know what is happening in the company he is working with. Or another option: make his quota before going on leave. It is impossible that he only became aware that the theatre bed weight limit is 130 kg seconds before the procedure.

I am surprise Dr. Boitumelo Khantsi at Pretoria Eye Institute find it difficult to provide a ophthalmology report to a minor patient despite receiving eye care from you. This I find ********* and detrimental to whoever use your services in now or future. The Minor patient who need to relocate and get another ophthalmologist in another country need this report but he refused.
