The bank makes it extremely difficult and expensive to download past statements. Cannot go back more than six months online, when you are directed to the app. On the app, you can only view one month at a time, with no option to email or download. Standard Bank informs me that it will cost R10 per month for downloads older than six months. On Capitec it is easy and free.
I cannot log into Capitec Business Banking via my desktop. Trying get assistance from a human or bot has proven to be mission impossible. Nearly half an hour waiting on the WhatsApp number which is "still the fastest way to get help". Their words.
Pretty much impossible to have a simple card query responded to. Email address on website is no longer active, chatbot does not respond, was kept on hold until the phone cut out.
Beware of Europcar if you have booked a car from Edinburgh. When I arrived I was told that the Fiat 500 I had booked was unsuited to roads in the Lake District. The assistant showed me photos of potholed roads and a small car stuck in the mud after having to pull over. Turns out it was a total con supported by the company as the images were on his screen. I ended up paying twice as much as planned. The windy roads are much better suited to the nimble Fiat 500 than the bulky SUV I was talked into. It proved impossible to swap back to my original vehicle as the customer service (all based in India, it seems) simply sends you from pillar to post. Emails to customer service are ignored. When I eventually got what was purported to be the right number it rang for half an hour and then a canned voice came on and abruptly cancelled the call.
The blurb states:"Ever been faced with a medical bill that your medical aid did not fully cover? Old Mutual's Gap Cover is the affordable answer to those unexpected expenses. It pays the gap between what your medical aid covers and what hospitals and specialists charge". The truth is that the company is a nightmare to deal with - call backs do not happen, repeated requests for more and more documentation, then rejection on flimsy grounds. I was informed that they do not pay out above the minimum prescribed benefit. The reason you have gap cover is because doctors and hospitals charge over the minimum prescribed benefit limit. Which means that Old Mutual do not pay out.

Beware of Defy so-called "stainless steel" stove tops. It discolours at the slightest splash of tomato, vinegar or other foodstuff. Port Elizabeth technician and office not helpful at all - just used it as an opportunity to try and sell Defy cleaning products. Off the shelf products which are made for stainless steel do not work.
Absolutely zero service level or way to contact them. And they list Hellopeter as a client!
Shocking (non existent) service. No communication about so-called problem with uploaded ID. Impossible to get hold of call centre - line dropped continuously. Do not answer emails. Use them at your peril.
Their Disky licence renewal service is a joke. Money was accepted 18 days ago. When I check on the app it states that the ID document is invalid for my wife. It is the only one my wife has. More importantly, there has been absolutely zero attempt to contact me to inform me of the problem. The licences are about to expire.
