Proton X Disaster
Proton X50 Executive. It's time to tell the story about one of the nicest cars to drive. When I bought one of the first Proton cars, I specifically asked about backup and spares and was assured that there would always be adequate spares for any sort of problem. On the 20th December 2024, I had towbar go through my radiator due to an idiot stopping in the right lane on the freeway. The go ahead to do the repairs, was eventually given on 12 January 2025 the delay was because of the insurance company that my broker had placed me with. My car was towed to an assessment centre and not directly to a panel beater that has an assessment centre on his premises as I had specifically requested in my policy. After much correspondence, I eventually received an email from the repairer on 31st January stating that only one part was on back order, and would be available in 3 months. I eventually established that this is not a local problem but a problem with Proton internationally, after much investigation on my side to try fix the issue myself, It came to my attention, that parts are a problem with these cars and Proton do not fulfill their side of the guarantee without much inconvenience to the client. obviously the car hire had expired after 30 days leaving me with no form of transportation. Based on this, I made the decision to purchase one of the more readily available cars with spare parts that can be supp**** virtually off the shelves without this type of delay in the future. Lesson learned: 1. Do not buy any new Chinese/Malaysian and any supplier that is not well established in the country because although it is not intentional to have an accident this could happen to anybody and you could be stuck without any forms of transport and nobody is interested in helping. 2. Make sure of your insurance and their process of having the car assessed, to avoid suffering the loss of a long period of delay, before the instruction is given for the repairer to proceed with the repair. 3. Make sure that if something like this should happen to you, that you do have recourse or a backup plan to avail yourself with transport, especially if you are above retiring age and you make the decision that you no longer need two vehicles. Especially as this is a time of your life when you and your partner have medical issues and require treatment or have a medical emergency, as was my case. In conclusion, I reiterate that the new cars are really fantastic and have a lot of excellent features, but make sure that you buy a well-established brand and get some sort of proof that you can get spares to avoid my situation with PROTON.

Service manager not interrested in customer servic
Went to the service department on 28/10/2015. I phoned a while ago to ask if they could check on my vehicle why the engine light came on on my Proton vehicle. They told me that it is something small and they could rectify it for me quickly, must just bring in my car at anytime and it would not take long. When I went there on the 28th the service manager told me that they cant help me and I had to make an appointment to help me a week from now. I tried to explain to him that a drove a far distance to get to them and could not come again soon to the dealer and surely it wont take long to check on the light that came on since that was what I was told over the phone. He just told me he cant help me and I must make an appointment for a later time. I want to speak to a person higher up and he just told me there is no one else that I can talk to.<br> I cant believe his attitude and lack to assist me and I felt once you bought a vehicle from them they don't care about after service. I regret buying a Proton vehicle.

Poor Workmanship - Incorrect oil in gearbox
Wrong oil<br> <br> My vehicle is at your service centre at Pearl Auto, in Edenvale, Johannesburg (now called Multifranchise Company) since approximately a month and a half now<br> I understand that you had no knowledge of all that has happened to my vehicle from a service point of view. I called several times and spoke to Waren who told me that he was troubleshooting the problem. Eventually I called on a Wednesday and was told that was leaving that same Friday and he will get back to me before he leaves. But this was not so. He left without providing feedback. <br> <br> I eventually decided to call you. You have also told me that you will follow up but could not get all the documents from Tanya. You will have to get a case history and revert to me. In the interim I am the one who has to bear the brunt of poor workmanship and ultimately poor service delivery. I can understand if my service and complains are dated to many years ago, but this is approximately 2 and a half years. I am certain, or would certainly hope that you're your service centre keeps records for at least 5 years, then it will not be so difficult to track <br> <br> I called today and Ian advised that they cannot rectify their error. bad service, careless attitude to the customer
I took my car to proton with a battery issue in July 2015. I bought a new battery and the car started to have more problems and did only one trip with the new battery. It was then towed back to the dealer. The dealer never calls and makes empty promises to solve the matter. I have been sent from one person to the other with no one to come back and explain the problem. I was then told after almost two months with my car that the ECU is damaged and needs to be replaced. I requested the quotation and it has never been sent, after countless calls I have done.I was informed that the estimated quote is R12000. I have been told that the ECU is not covered under the warranty. I bought the car new in 2013 with a 3 year warranty, August. My car is a saga 1.3. My car has never been on an accident but now I find myself without a car, noone coming back to me.

Vehicle was towed in 09/03/2015 , Symptoms unable to start - Diagnosed over heat and head warped - 2 weeks later car still not ready and still trying to find fault R15000 later and the service dept staff can't even remeber their own lies when they phone to give the excuses .I have never delt with such incompetant people in customer service enviroment before.
