On Thursday 3 Feb 2022 I phoned SKYE TV (288 Main Rd, Retreat, Cape Town, tel 021 701 6868) to report my DSTV not working. They undertook to send a service person the next day at 11:00. No one came, so at 12:55 I again phoned 021 701 6868 and they said they would make sure that my problem was being attended to. Not long afterwards, two men arrived from another company, DSTV INSTALLERS , who said they were SKYE subcontractors, and had been told to attend to our DSTV problem. They immediately did some tests, replaced some parts, and got the system working. We were told to pay immediately by EFT into their ABSA account to get a R100 discount. However, on Monday, the TV remote was not working, so I called SKYE TV directly, and when their own technicians came, they told us that there was no record of my previous call on their computer system, and furthermore, they do not use subcontractors, but do all repair work themselves. This shows us that the employee who handled my call at SKYE TV sent my contact details to DSTV INSTALLERS who lied about being subcontractors of SKYE TV, and grasped an opportunity to take away work that rightfully belonged to SKYE TV. They also charged us more than double the normal price that SKYE TV would have charged. The genuine SKYE TV technicians took photographs of the DSTV INSTALLERS invoice. Let us hope that SKYE TV finds the person responsible. 9

I am shocked by the customer care/after sales service of this business. As an agent of Multichoice/DSTV you would expect better service. Shocking. Very quick to promise you the world over the phone and in front of customers. Twice now I have follwed the advice of this shop, and guess what, came short every time. I can appreciate the fact that I am not the only DSTV customer in South Africa, but clearly I am of no concern. Yet another night/day of pay for something that I am not getting the benefit of. Black TV screens, no DSTV.

I had to phone twice - a week apart - before they gave me a day and time to come and fix the problem with TV reception. I stayed in all day and they never arrived. No call to explain or re-book and it is now 2 days later. If this is the way they do business thank goodness they did not touch my TV system.

In October last year I did the price lock deal with DSTV from the PVR to the Explorer. On 22 October Skye TV came an we did our installation. 2 Installers arrived and the 1 who seemed to be in charge explained that he can only connect 1 TV to the Explorer which was understood. He said that if we wanted more TV's connected we would have to pay for it. We didn't want it as all they needed to do was to install the Explorer as we had previously had our PVR connected to another smaller decoder in our bedroom. We even showed the 2nd installer the decoder we had as we were paying DSTV for the xtra view and he said our system would work once the Explorer was installed and then re-connected correctly for which we had someone who did our previous connections. When the installation was completed we asked the 1st installer that if we connect the Explorer to the splitter if it would work he said "yes, if you can find the connections" and never thought anything further about it. Before they left the 2nd installer gave my husband his telephone no and said that he can call him if we wanted him to connect our Explorer to our bedroom TV. After they left we called our person to come and connect our bedroom TV and he was horrified to find that Skye TV had brazenly cut down all our cables deliberately. Obviously the installers were out to make xtra money by giving us his telephone number so he would have charged us for all the new cabling that we had put up a couple of months before that. I sent an email to them on Monday 24 October and called on 26th October as I had received no acknowledgement from them and they claimed that the never received it. I hit re-send and it went through. Fatima said that she would get someone to contact me. They did (I forgot his name), but I was out of town at the time and he said that he would contact me the following week. He called and arranged to come and see me, after he never pitched up I sent him a message to say that I was still waiting. He then said that he forgot and would arrange for someone to come and see me, well I am now fed up with waiting...

Paid R 625 for an extra view installation only to find that it is not working. Trying to get the company to come out and correct their mistake. Lousy attitude: I have to wait until tomorrow. Not phoning me back. Poor service. DO NOT USE THEM if you want good reliable and quality service.

Minnette Dempsey
