If I can help it I won’t even give it’s place one star. I’ve had a very disappointing experience at Star Meats. The owner was extremely arrogant and dismissive, which made the visit unpleasant. Good customer service goes a long way, and unfortunately, that was completely lacking here. I expected to be treated with respect, but instead left feeling unwelcome. I won’t be returning and wouldn’t recommend this place based on how customers are treated.

If I can help it I won’t even give it’s place one star. I’ve had a very disappointing experience at Star Meats. The owner was extremely arrogant and dismissive, which made the visit unpleasant. Good customer service goes a long way, and unfortunately, that was completely lacking here. I expected to be treated with respect, but instead left feeling unwelcome. I won’t be returning and wouldn’t recommend this place based on how customers are treated.

I was an avid shopper at Star Meats over several years, recently the comments going around with this butchery has left me painstakingly embarrassed that I supported this store. I was an avid shopper at Star Meats over several years, recently the comments going around with this butchery has left me painstakingly embarrassed that I supported this store. Terrible meat/Terrbile service..... We visited the store and had to follow a long que to purchase the meat. Firstly we travelled from Phoenix area to Overport, then had to wait in the que for almost an hour, when we reached home we decided to clean and sort out the meat, to our horror the meat was extremely fatty, there was layers of fat. We tried calling the store several times the manager was not available, we left several messages, nobody has returned the call. I called again today from my cell phone and had to wait for several minutes before a lady came online, she was the most rudest woman ever, I cannot understand how a business can employ a lady of such calibre. She speaks loudly, she doesnt give you a chance to explain yourself, she is horrible by nature, In business your customers should always be treated with utmost respect and kindness and not be treated in this disrespectful manner. We paid for the product, its not like they gave it to us for free that we must just accept anything they give us. They have just lost my support and i would like other customers to be weary when dealing with them.

I purchased at Star meats in durban on 17 April 2022 while processing the payment via debit card and entering the pin the cashier said to remove and re insert the card and pin again. After realizing the payment went through my account twice I contacted the store and spoke to Riaz who asked me when will I be returning to the area for a refund and I was also told I will be contacted by the accounts person sagren after they close for the day and process the accounts for the day. I have contacted them today as I received no communication from them yesterday, Sagren was not aware of my query of being double charged and then continued to be rude and tell me that they video footage takes up to three days to download which is totally irrelevant to the double payment being processed by the cashier as that should be checked on the daily financial cash up. He further then said it's a long weekend and I should go to the bank tomorrow and come to the store with a bank statement to provide him with proof of such double payment. I am utterly disgusted at the manner in which this is being handled. It is a simple process to be followed in store to check the double payment which was incorrectly done on the part of the cashier. However I am told to inconvenience myself. Should Sagren or Riaz be faced with this situation they have placed me in they will not be merely just awaiting for the manager to return they call when and if he is available that's what I was informed to then wait for.

About 5 years ago after visiting this deli/ butcher shop almost 2 to 3 times weekly, I stopped going. Why?? Because on of the owners who kept asking me for years if I wanted a trolley didn't even turn around to look at me when I asked for his help one day So I left And my leaving didn't make a difference and their business soared but I still never went back on principle Then a few weeks I heard it was sold So i thought ok I'll give it a try again Sadly though the originals were still around... my dad must have got his info confused or something I went in looking for a fillet for my son's birthday dinner I was told at the counter there was none and I should look in the fridge Went to the fridge were 2 staff members were packing the shelf and asked if they could help I was told there was no fillet and if I wanted some I should wait I asked how long They said 15 minutes So I thought that's ok I'll just browse and the one guy disappeared so I thought maybe he was going to try and see if he could do something for me After 15 minutes and nothing I went back and asked the remaining staff how much longer please add i had to go back to work He was rude and abrasive and said if you want it you must just wait cause I'm busy So I said ok them maybe next door has some (the old site of the same store) and he said again quite rudely 'I'm telling you there's no fillet there too so just wait' and cake on packing I left a trolley full of stuff and walked out My reason for this review is that I'm so sad about how bad Muslim stores treat their staff and in turn how we the customers are treated in general And yet we accept it because of supply and demand And frankly I think it's high time stores like this show some respect to their staff and clients I am a firm believer in the management is where the buck stops FYI I walked into the old store and within 5 minutes I had a fillet and the staff there always seem more friendly Anyhow I hope the new owners being some good business sense and this business is known both its product and service

I PURCHASED HALF A SHEEP C1 FROM THIS STORE . WHEN MEAT WAS PURCHASED I DID COOK SOME AND MEAT WAS PERFECT, A WEEK LATER AFTER BEING STORED IN MY FREEZER I NOTICED A BAD SMAELL AND WHEN CHECKED THE MEAT, THE MEAT WAS OFF. MY FREEZER WAS IN WORKING CONDITION. I CONTACTED THE STORE IMMEDIATELY. AFTER ABOUT 5 DAYS THE STORE CONTACTED ME AND I SPOKE TO A PERSON BY THE NAME OF DENVER, I TOLD HIM MY ISSUE AND HE SEEMED LIKE A REASONABLE PERSON, I ADVISED HIM THAT I HAVE ONE PARCEL OF THE BAD MEAT LEFT AND I ASKED HIM IF HE NEEDED IT BACK AND HE SAID NO BUT I CAN COLLECT ANOTHER PARCEL OF MEAT FROM THE STORE AS COMPENSATION FOR THE BAD EXPERIENCE. AT 1PM YESTERDAY I CONTACTED DENVER TO TELL HIM THAT MY DRIVER WILL COLLECT AND HE ADVISED ME THAT ANOTHER MANAGER BY THE NAME OF RIAZ ADVISED HIM NOT TO GIVE OUT THE MEAT TO ME AS COMPENSATION. I TRIED TO CONTACT RIAZ OF NUMEROUS OCCASIONS YESTEDAY AND TODAY BUT NO JOY. I RECEIVED A CALL FROM RIAZ NOW AT 15:15PM. I EXPLAINED TO HIM EXACTLY THE SAME THING I SAID TO DENVER BUT HE KEPT ON ASKING FOR A RECEIPT AND THE PRODUCT. I ADVISED HIM THAT I HAVE MISPLACED THE RECEIPT BUT I DID KEEP THE PRODUCT AS PROOF BUT DENVER DIDNT WANT IT BACK SO I DISPOSED OF IT. HE WAS VERY RUDE TOWARDS ME AND HE SAID THAT I CAN CONTACT THE HEALTH BOARDS, CONSUMER WATCHES REGARDING THIS MATTER, THIS IS TERRIBLE SERVICE FROM A MANAGER AT THE STORE. #SupportLocal Very clean and well managed butchery specialising in Halaal meats and other food products. The specials run on chicken are particularly good and justify the drive into Overport on a busy weekend! The bathroom is spotless should you need to use it, and the staff always friendly and helpful. Parking has never been a problem for us even during the 'busy' periods. They offer a wide range of products including baked goods, staples and obviously a wide range of (certified) Halaal meats for either personal consumption or if you are cooking for Muslim guests.
