I have paid Unisa for registration only to find out I was not registered even when I have paid on time, thereafter on the 21st April 2026 I requested a refund, and sent all supporting documents including My account statement from them showing I have a credit balance even added a proof of payment screenshot. refund turnaround time it's 15 days from day of submitting refund request form. I have been following up in the interim while waiting for 15 days, and will only get response after 3 days, I even called them and the guy who assisted mailed them, Today on the 20th May 2026 I receive email from them stating I should send documents in PDF format in order to be refunded, the document were PDF, except Proof of payment sent it was screenshot from my banking app. I was very inconvenienced by Unisa due to the way they handle this query it is unprofessional

Impossible to get a hold of, have been trying for almost two months and when you do, they hang up on you. Extremely disappointed. No one bothers even to answer your emails. UNISA, you can do better!!!!!!!!! Shocking for a South African University!

I am NSFAS student funded 2024. I have paid my 1st sem modules for 2024 academic year. On UNISA system shows that I have refund due to me. Since 2025 I have been struggling to get my refund . I have case numbers since 2025 they keep saying they escalating the matter to finance department till date same story.

I paid for my registration in February 2025, they said I am going to receive it within 14 days when I enquired about it. It’s the 15th day today and nothing on my bank account. They still owe me 2 months allowance from my bursary. ****MERS sitting behind office chairs

I have spent the last 5 months trying to get my degree from Unisa with no luck. No phone numbers work, emails go without response, and there is no way that I am going into the JHB CBD into a branch. I have no idea how to win here!

18/02/2026 I’ve been going back and forth regarding my refund. When I followed up I was told to wait as turn around time is 15 working days. It’s way past that and I still haven’t received it yet. Instead they asking for proof of payments for other payments that have nothing to do with the refund I’ve been requesting. #13985157 [#14144843]

I am extremely dissatisfied with the way UNISA is handling my refund. I submitted my completed refund form on 4 March, with the understanding that refunds are processed within 15 days. As of 7 April, more than a month later, my refund has still not been processed. I have called over five times to follow up, and each time I receive a different explanation. I have repeatedly been told that my query would be escalated, but this has clearly not happened. Instead, I am left chasing answers with no progress. To make matters worse, I was recently told that the 15-day processing period only begins once the finance department responds — which they have not done. This effectively means there is no real timeline, making the stated 15-day policy misleading. Last week, I was told that the 15 days had already lapsed and that I should expect payment soon. This has not happened. This experience shows a serious lack of accountability, poor internal communication, and disregard for students who rely on these funds. It is unacceptable for an institution of this size to operate this way,especially when dealing with student finances. I expect urgent action and clear communication regarding my refund.
