I must give a shout out to Dr Noleen. I have been a client of theirs for more than 40 years and all the wonderful dogs that came into our lives and our hearts. I've known Dr Selmer since he came to SA in 1970-ish. They know these dogs are a massive part of our lives and understand we are scared and worried. Dr Noleen - thank you for saving our Poppy.

i am writing this email just a few hours after losing my beloved best friend ..my beloved dog..... i am in absoulte shock regarding the agressive and bullying behvaiour of the male staff from ashburn vet , The incident took place on 09/01/2026 @ 12 :30 A.M (Eaily parts of the morning ) when my very eldery dog suddenly collapsed and was in his final stages of life,, i urgently required assistance as i wanted him eautinized ,as i could not allow to see him suffer in pain. i called ashburn vet, A lady answered my call, i had advised her that i need to bring my dog for Euthanasia as he is very critical and in a coma, she puts the phone on loud speaker and made another male staff speak to me as he refused to come to the phone. When i advised him that he needs to come closer to the phone as i cannot hear him he became extreamily abbrupt towards me over the phone, All i could hear was that he is shouting towards me and saying he is busy !!!!! ,he kept on shouting .....I was so afraid to bring my dog there as i could not allow my dog to be seen or treated by such an aggressive individual .......unfortunally my dog passed away while i was looking for another 24 hour vet i called in 2 hours later to get his name as i want to report this matter to the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC), The same individual answered the phone , i requsted his name, he laughed and hanged up . When i called in the second time , he advised me in a hostile tone that if i want his name i must come to the vet now and meet him personally and he will give his name !!!!! To the owners of of ashburn vet .... how are your allowing a staff wIth such hostiality working around animals !!!!!! i am going to personally report this to the complaints board due to the fact that indivduals like this is a danger to society especially when dealing with animals

I took my spaniel, Hudson, to this vet on Sunday, 10 November at 12:30, as he had a severely high temperature and needed urgent care. The vet suspected pancreatitis and requested that I admit him overnight with a deposit of R4,500, which I paid. Later that evening, I was told his bloods were clear and that he did not have pancreatitis, but an x-ray allegedly showed an internal mass. The vet then said he wasn’t confident with ultrasounds and that another doctor would only be available the following day. The next morning, I made multiple calls (8:17 am, 10:07 am, 11:00 am, and 12:45 pm) and received contradictory information each time. I was repeatedly promised a call from the doctor that never came. When I finally spoke to him, he said Hudson was about to have the ultrasound — despite me being told hours earlier that it had already been done. The doctor was rude, dismissive, and even told me I was being emotional — which is completely unacceptable given that my dog had been admitted for over 24 hours without proper feedback or care. When I decided to discharge Hudson, I was handed a bill of R8,900 with no clear diagnosis. To make matters worse, the claim form stated that Hudson had “acute anorexia”, which is completely absurd and inaccurate considering the circumstances. I had also informed the vet that Hudson had an encounter with a ******, yet no examination for bite wounds or injuries was done before jumping to extreme and costly tests. This negligence and lack of care is alarming. The entire experience felt *********, careless, and profit-driven. I was later told by accounts that the manager would call me at 2 pm, which never happened — yet another example of poor communication and disregard for clients. I have since taken Hudson to a competent and compassionate vet who provided proper care and clear explanations. Please avoid this practice at all costs. Their lack of professionalism, compassion, and accountability is shocking. I will be taking this matter further with the Veterinary Council for investigation.

I have been a consistent patron of the hospital on multiple occasions . I was screamed at by an extremely unprofessional Sister SPHE , saying that she is annoyed, simply because I asked her why I was charged for a procedure and there are no results. She kept changing the answer. At first she said the doctor didn't write any notes, then she said it's probably normal because no medicine was prescribed, to I don't know I'm just working the night shift. I was confused by her different answers so I asked for further clarity and if i would get results . She became loud, screaming aggressively and started shouting and when i asked her to calm down and not to scream because I simply asked why there are there no formal results for a charged procedure ,she said shes annoyed by my questioning, and I'm not letting her finish. When she continued to shout, 2 out of the 3 other receptionists started shouting and speaking in Zulu and fighting in the background like a gang as she tried to get back up. It became a circus as she screamed her way at me, backing off into the theatre until several collegues had to calm her down and escourt her away. She was screaming uncontrollably inside the theatre. My family and I were horrified and shocked by her unprofessional aggression. She then said she will scream and shout because nobody can talk to her like that and began cursing .She requires further training on how to engage with clients and counseling.

My cat was sick but I only had R500 to take him to the vet with. I had made an appointment at a Veterinary hospital which agreed to treat him for that amount that I had. During the night he could not breathe so I had no choice but to rush him to Ashburne Veterinary hospital as they are opened 24 hours. They took him straight to the back because he was having trouble breathing and told me that he is stabilized and on oxygen. I was told that I needed at least 15k for all the tests they need to run. I am unemployed so I told them I only had R500 and asked if they could please just leave him on oxygen for the night so that I could get him to the other clinic in the morning which I could afford. He said to me that it won't be advisable to move him as he is on oxygen. When I asked to see him, he was in a small cubicle which was half opened and there was a small tube of oxygen just left there but all the list was escaping because of the cubicle being half opened. He still could not breathe. I asked if it will take some time for his breathing to normalize he told me yes. He told me I could speak to management the next day to discuss giving me some time to raise funds to pay the bill. I went there the next morning to speak to someone from management. I explained my situation to him and he was cold. He looked at me as if I want to ***** from him. My cat was left in that condition with no drip set up even though he was not eating and no help at all. I was told that his fever was down because he was injected with antibiotics but he was obviously dehydrated and nothing was being done about that. I saw him in the same state. He still was having difficulty breathing. I tried so hard to raise funds posting on Facebook. I was panicked within me because I knew he was deteriorating and I had no time. I was told I needed 5k in order for them to start testing and xrays even after I poured my heart out to them. I asked if they can please start treating him while I come up with the funds. They refused. I felt so stressed. I was shocked to learn that there was no compassion at all. It was all about money. That same night they called me to say he had passed away. I was devastated. I felt like I failed him yet they failed us both. My heart is crushed. All I wanted was for him to recover and come home 😭. I went to fetch his body to bury him at home and I was told I could not take him without settling an amount of R2600 first which I did not have. Though my grief I had to endure this. I told them I didnr have money and he died in their care where there was no drip and he was left with oxygen that looked like it was for show. No one came to speak to me. The receptionist was back and forth conveying messages. After she got back from speaking to management she came back to say that they can being the amount down from R2600 to R1400 and I have one month in which I can pay that amount and fetch my cat. I had no choice but to leave without him. I will have to come up with that money and fetch my baby so I can bring him home. This was the worst experience that I have ever had at veterinary hospital before.

To the amazing Ashburne Veterinary Hospital team – thank you from the bottom of my heart for the care, compassion, and kindness you've shown to my furbaby, Lulu. These past few days have been tough, but your support has made all the difference. Special thanks to Mr. Evans Paradza for your incredible leadership, Dr. James Taylor for your calm and caring approach, and Shannon K. Chetty for your kindness and understanding during a difficult time. Every single staff member – from the front desk to those behind the scenes – you truly make Ashburne feel like more than just a vet. Thank you for treating Lulu and me with such heart. You’re doing something special, and I see it. -Saieesh

I would like to caution everybody who would use this establishment for there their beloved pet. My cat passed away after dental surgery, the pre surgery blood worn was not done, I was told it would be done after. I did argue as I thought the vet should know what they are doing then our beloved kitty completely tanked after not completely recovering from the anesthetic. We tried to get hold of the vet but no avail, and then rushed to another vet that we knew. It was then discovered that our cat was diabetic and extremely anemic, mostly likely from blood during the tothe extraction. Then the vet from the Petit hospital ****, saying that we denied the blood tests.

. I took him to ondekkers vet. He was okay but he was a little uncomfortable I thought he got hurt. Turns out he had bladder stones. The doctor said that he will be okay it's easy to remove and it's common in cats especially in winter. So he was kept there for two days. On the 26 June my father called the vet to ask is the cat okay is he better she told me the cat was doing good he is beter he can come home. So we went and got the cat but they already put the cat in my carrier bag for the cat so I didn't see the cat. When I got home I instantly noticed the cat wasn't great. I called her she said no the cat wasn't like that at the vet. I told her we'll I just got home and he isn't okay. She said that I should give the cat the stress relief pill and some water so I did. I kept him warm and around 8:30 pm I noticed the cat wasn't doing well his worse. I called her again she said I need to take the cat to the emergency vet. I lend money to took the cat. The doctor said that he is serverly dehydrated and he is in critical condition. So they helped with fluids but I went home with the cat because I don't have R6000 to leave him for just the night. I got home made him lay down and made sure he was warm. Long night went by he eventually passed away in suffer. Today I called the doctor to tell her how can se send a animal home if you know he is not doing well at all. She told me in her exact words that the last time se was helping him was at 2pm and she did see he was dehydrated.. I told her so how come you send the cat home. My kids had so see how their cat passed away not in a very good way. The night keeps playing in my head over and over. I'm tired of this failing us animals. How many people actually experience this for this vet how many animals did she not killed because that's what she did she killed my cat. And will be held responsible for her actions. Don't ever think as ondekkers vet to take your beloved pet. And yes I have all te prove and I've recorded her where she admits the cat wasn't well and she last work with my cat around 2pm. She let my cat suffer and died she killed my cat.
