BMW South Africa
Scores reflect the Overall AI Score for each category
Based on recent customer reviews, BMW South Africa faces severe criticism across virtually every aspect of the customer experience. Recurring complaints centre on unresolved vehicle defects, negligent service workmanship, dishonest staff conduct, and a near-total breakdown in communication and aftercare. While a handful of customers praise individual sales consultants by name, the overwhelming pattern reflects a premium brand failing to deliver on its promises across Sales & Purchase Experience (1.4), Vehicle Quality & Reliability (1.1), Service, Repairs & Maintenance (1.1), Staff Professionalism & Conduct (1.5), and Communication & Aftercare (1.0).

Never thought i'd write a bad review about BMW but, these guys once your car is out of motor plan it's like they're out to squeeze every cent out of you by deliberately damaging your car without your knowledge or are trying to force you into buying another vehicle. My car has been to Leo Haese in centurion 3 times this year alone and it's a 2020 model. First they did not secure my brakes after rear brake pad service, took it back, they secure brakes but did not tell me there's a problem with "Engine mounts leaking" 3 weeks ;later i take for motor starter change campaign, they're telling me a 2020 vehicle has an engen mount leak. BMW are you now selling us Chinese BMWs?

I had my brake pads replaced toward the end of last year, and then additional brake work was done again in January. Since then, I have not been happy with my vehicle at all. Every time I reverse, the brakes make a horrible screeching sound. I have taken the car back to the dealership multiple times, and each time I am told that they have tested it and “cannot hear anything.” I was even asked to record a video of the sound while driving, which I did. Despite providing this evidence, I am now being told that nothing further will be done because they still “cannot hear the screeching.” This response is completely unacceptable. I am extremely dissatisfied with the service I am receiving from BMW Westrand. I am paying a significant amount for this vehicle, and it is unacceptable to be driving a car that screeches every time I reverse.

Took my car to Auto Bavaria Midrand due to vehicle malfunction. Despite sending them pictures and video footage of the problem, today I was told that they can’t assist and I should collect the car after it had been at the dealership for 3 day. The advice I was given, take more footage. They couldn’t even offer a loan vehicle. The issue was even escalated to customer service and nothing was done! How much footage is enough footage for something to be done. Been fighting them since last year July and still nothing. Paying an arm and a leg for nothing

I bought a brand new BMW X2 and it's been giving problems ever since I purchased it. Software issues are always cited as the problem. The after sales lady from Auto Bavaria Midrand has been giving me the worst kind of attitude since I’ve been dealing with her. I eventually escalated the issue to customers service, I’ve received zero feedback. I always have to call and I am told that the consultant is unavailable. Worst experience ever … should have stuck with Mercedes Benz !

Bought a new 2025 X3 G45. I noticed excessive vibration over slow bumps, no noise. Dealer tested twice and could not isolate the problem and escalated it to BMW South Africa who dismissed it as a "normal characteristic". I have not driven the vehicle since Nov 2024 due to comfort/safety concerns and is still looking for a resolution.

Bitter Disappointment: As a lifelong BMW enthusiast, it deeply saddens me to state that my recent experiences at this branch in Port Elizabeth has been a source of profound disappointment. I have always associated the BMW name with premium service, yet this location consistently falls short of that standard. To put it plainly: obtaining any level of professional service at this specific branch has proven nearly impossible. The Sales Failure Early last year, I sold my previous X5, mistakenly thinking I no longer required a vehicle. When I realized my error and decided to purchase another X5 later that year, I headed straight to BMW—expecting the premium experience the brand is known for. It was an utter waste of time. I was never given the "time of day" when inquiring about a pre-owned X5 M or X5 M50d. I was left with the distinct impression that because I did not "look the part," my business was not wanted. Consequently, I took my capital elsewhere, purchasing an X5 M50i in Johannesburg and bringing it down to Port Elizabeth myself. The Service Failure I recently gave the branch the benefit of the doubt, assuming my first experience was an isolated "bad day." I was wrong; lightning struck twice. • Lack of Professionalism: The first staff member I was directed to remained occupied with a personal phone call, making no effort to acknowledge me. • Broken Promises: A second staff member promised a callback for a service booking that never materialized. • Technical Incompetence: Most baffling was my interaction with the BMW Genius. I was told my vehicle lacked specific functions—even after I had located the settings myself and received confirmation from BMW Head Office. I even reached out to correct the staff on this point and was promised a follow-up to "sort it out." Predictably, I have been met with total radio silence. The Predicament I am now facing a ridiculous predicament: do I drive a ****m round-trip to another town just to receive basic service, or do I give up on the BMW brand entirely??

Good day BMW South Africa. I hope that this DM finds you good. I am very concerned with your after sales. I have been driving BMW from 2013 F30 and currently have a 2023 G20 Mzansi Edition and M3 Competition G80 M xDrive in my possession . 1. Your tires mainly Pirelli’s are no where to be found to a point that your dealers also do not keep stock of them. The question begs, in case of an emergency what do your BMW customers do? Do they bolt/uber (ehail) to their next destination because you do not have stock of tires and i have to order to only get the tire tomorrow? 2.On my way to the Eastern Cape and i hit a pothole do i need to book a hotel/guest house at Bethlehem so that tomorrow i can be close to that nearest BMW where my car is taken to all because that all your dealers have no tires in stock? That makes driving a BMW an inconvenience. 3. I do not even want to start with your BMW On call assistance that has no help. Yesterday i had a tyre problem where the M3 with only 5000km’s on it had a tire burst (no pothole or bubble on the tire) on the N12 near Rondebuilt Boksburg. I advised my wife to drive with the flat tire to Boksburg BMW hoping that she will get assistance, mind you we reside in Witbank which is roughly 100km’s apart. BMW Boksburg like all the other BMW Dealers did not have the Pirelli tyre. I then called BMW on call to assist with a loan wheel (which i have always been assisted with the F30 and once where i fought with the G20 to have the loan wheel). The BMW on call agent was quick to say that there is no loan wheel and cannot assist. I then asked for the Manager. The Manager was also very quick to tell me that BMW on Call is not an “insurance policy” and since the car is at the dealership then i will not be helped and my wife will be left stranded at Boksburg and we must see to ourselves how we going to get her back at Witbank. Mind you that i have had BMW on call driving from Lydenburg MP to come assist me in Kriel with a loan wheel back in 2017 but now all of a sudden that services is redundant. The question than begs if the dealership has no tire spares, the car is broken down on tire puncture and BMW on call cannot give out a loan wheel then what exactly needs to happen? The call to BMW ON call happened yesterday (22/01/2026 at around 14h00. Right now at this very moment, i am disgusted with BMW and actually asking myself why i am driving a BMW after 15 years of loyalty to this best brand. The after sales leave a bitter taste honestly. Your swift response will be highly appreciated.

Based on recent customer reviews, this business delivers a consistently strong customer experience anchored by outstanding agent quality and rapid communication. Customers frequently name individual consultants and praise their friendliness, patience, and professionalism. Recurring praise is given to claims and roadside assistance, though a vocal minority report frustrating delays, rejected claims, and poor transparency around premium increases.
This business's biggest strength, according to Hellopeter's AI analysis, is Agent Quality & Customer Care. Named consultants are praised repeatedly for patience, friendliness, and going above and beyond. Words like 'amazing,' 'star,' and 'gem' appear frequently, reflecting genuinely caring human interactions.
The most common complaint, based on Hellopeter's AI analysis of recent customer reviews, is Pricing, Premiums & Transparency. Customers appreciate premium reductions upon request but complain about unexplained annual increases, hidden excess charges, and debits continuing after cancellation. Transparency at policy inception is a recurring gap.
