I decided to take my family out to Cinemax Northgate on Sunday the 11th February and we bought tickets to the Marvel 3D movie (R400 total for tickets) for the 15:00 show, we bought the Queen combo which costed us R400 as well. Less than 10mins into the movie I had to leave to complain that even with the 3D glasses the picture quality was still blurry. The gentlemen tried to fix it and advised us that there is something wrong with the projector as it was shaking, all the while still playing the movie while trying to sort it out. We then heard the manager on duty was also there trying to sort it out but to no avail. We then requested to speak to the manager and was greeted with great animosity like she was doing us a favour. She advised us that she will refund us for the tickets but not the combo, my wife then had a heated argument with her because we requested a refund for everything and not just the tickets. They requested that we return everything that we bought which we did and was then told afterwards that they could not refund us for the combo only the tickets even though they requested the combo be returned which we did. I then proceeded to walk away as the argument between the lady manager on duty and my wife argued (not sure what your staff at Cinemax Northgate deems as customer service). A gentlemen in a blue jacket then apparently told my wife that why is she crying for a R400 (i think he is so rich at this stage he should be owning all the Cinemax's in Gauteng) in front of my daughter and when I was told this I went to look for him but he ran out the back and went hiding by the entrances of the movies. I approached him and he said he did not say that to my wife and denied it completely, so therefore they have ****s employed as well because he said this infront of my kids and they heard him as plain as day. I asked the gentlemen what his name was and he said it is Derrick Chabalala (whom I now know to be Hlulani Chabalala). He told me he had R400 in his pocket. Wow so rich the Food and Beverage Operations Manager is with R400 in his pocket. After our confrontation the lady manager informed us that her manager Sanjay Rugbeer told her that we cannot get refunded for the combo and wanted to return the items to us (which was taken to the back). My wife did not accept the items taken from the back because we do not know what was done to the items while in the possession of your staff members. I reached out to this Sanjay Rugbeer on Sunday after the incident on LinkenIn and informed him of our experience and to this day he has not said a word....Customer Experience they have NONE. This Cinemax should be closed down or the staff need a lesson in dealing with customers (Duty Manager and "Food and Beverage Manager")

My wife took me for a movie for father's day and because it is my birthday. Alinah is the lady that took my money for the tickets. Told her because it is early we will buy snacks when we come to watch the movie. When we came back the ladies that work there by the entrance rudely asked if we have a ticket. I showed her the ticket. We went to the said cashier to buy snacks. Now we had done some shopping for the braai this afternoon. There was raw meat in the bag. RUDELY we were informed that we can't go in with the said bag. She made such a scene that the manager Ntokozo came out. The way that we were made to feel like ********s made me so cross that I asked for a refund

Good evening I want to lodge a formal complaint of an incident that took place this evening 15 Dec 2023 at the Northgate Cinemax. I dropped my kids (x6) at 20:15 for the Avatar movie showing at the same time. The kids were told they can’t watch a movie that’s already started but were intentionally sold tickets for 19:45 (a whole hour later). Purposefully because Cinemax doesn’t refund tickets where movies have started longer than 45 minutes. How convenient! The kids highlighted that the movie started almost an hour ago and what they wanted was 20:15 and would rather get a refund. At which point there were exchanges and snide comments said to children between the ages of 9 and 19 years of age. This is when they decide to call me to help. I drove through because none of the staff wanted to take the phone to talk to me. The manager at the desk on this night advised that they dont sell movies that have already started and they don’t refund. This is preposterous given that they sold the kids an hour old movie knowing full well their own rules and that they don’t refund. This is an abuse of authority and is exploitation and quite frankly shocking customer service. Needless to say I am quite angry and my kids still in shock at the mistreatment having being called ‘these white kids’ because they don’t speak vernacular but were brave enough to standup for themselves. Furthermore being bullied to buy snacks because Cinemax doesn’t sell tickets without snacks. What nonsense!! With snide comments that how do they purchase 6 tickets and can’t afford snacks. Saying that ‘bayaphapha, bavele babona imoto bagcumkela’. Really! Such speech targeted at kids between 8 and 19 years! Your staff should be ashamed! It’s disturbing that we cannot trust the adults who are entrusted to operate this facility in the absence of the owners. Where we send our children on their own thinking they will be safe and free from chancers and crooks. After demanding a refund - I was given the torn ticket to redeem on another day. I had to insist that the manager and other staff write and commit their names, contact details so that I don’t struggle when I return to redeem these torn tickets which they refused to reprint or give me something decent. See attached Thato, Derrick and Njabulo - shocking pathetic service. The snide comments and rhetoric targeted at minors is disgusting. Thank you Ntokozo Chabalala for being empathetic and caring and showing remorse and willingness to help resolve this. It was important for me to make you aware and to alert your management team/owners of this unbelievable staff behavior and to show you this dilapidated ticket. I don’t want drama when I come redeem these tickets. Angry Mother!

@CCinemaXSA tried century Cinemax at north gate mall, movie pricing fair, great variety of imported snacks but very expensive! Movies theater comfortable and cosy! Only disappointment was staff, but not their fault, lack of proper training , blame inexperienced management
