I worked as a Main Contractor / shopfitter for Coco Safar and was heavily involved in planning and completing one of their stores. My experience with them has been extremely disappointing and financially damaging. I didn’t just do standard shopfitting. I helped plan the entire store, and even had to bring in my own architect because the original plans were, in my view, not fit for purpose. To get the store completed on time and avoid penalties, I called in favours from my own subcontractors and effectively financed the project myself. We worked 24-hour shifts for weeks to make sure the store could open. The original amount they owed me was around R350,000. We agreed that they would pay the account down weekly from the store’s proceeds. For a while they did, and some of the outstanding amount was paid. However, in June 2023, the payments suddenly stopped – with no proper explanation and no revised plan to settle the debt. As of today, there is still around R74,000 outstanding. For over two years now I have been chasing this, and I have largely been ignored and “ghosted”. There were many promises made along the way – including talk of offering me shares in their Rosebank branch – but none of these promises ever materialised into anything real. In my opinion, this is not how a brand that presents itself as “premium” or “prestigious” should treat the people who helped build their store and their dream. I put in extensive time, energy, and money to deliver a high-quality result for them, and I have been left with unpaid bills and broken promises. I’m sharing this so that other contractors, suppliers and partners go into any relationship with Coco Safar with their eyes wide open, proper written agreements in place, and payment protections secured before doing the kind of work I did.

Heard that this place was amazing from a friend, so decided to go with friends. The host (a young black Congolese woman) did not want to seat us outside. We were 2 at the time and waited on 2 other friends. She told us that she’s not allowed to seat less than 4 people outside by the pier, and we could only dine there if we were 4. There were numerous other couples sitting by the pier (one man even sat by himself). I think that she didn’t want to seat us because we were the only black/colored people. Funnily enough this same woman was recruiting people from outside to come sit at the restaurant. So it wasn’t full at all, she just didn’t want us specifically to sit there. We eventually got seated by the manager who told us that we could sit anywhere we wanted to. How can you chase customers away from an establishment you do not own, and then turn around and recruit other passerbys to come dine?? The pastries are delicious but I’d never go back just because of this experience. My cousin cussed her out, rightfully so.

Coco safar v&a Cape Town. The lady named Margaret was absolutely rude and unhelpful once I was already seated. NO MENUS GIVEN UNTIL MUCH LATER. No help from waiters to place order. Took them over an hour to take my order. Took them another 1hour to tell me that there’s no soup anymore (sold out) so time wasted. Croissant was HARD, COLD AND DISTASTEFUL. OVERALL EXTREMELY BAD SERVICE THE SEA POUNT VENUE HAD BETTER SERVICE AND FOOD QUALITY.

We went to the Constantia Uitsig branch. Both the coffee and breakfast were fantastic and well worth it even considering the slightly higher prices than the nearby restaurants. Will definitely go back.

Yesterday, the Coco Safar Restaurant served me the worst burger I have ever tasted. To start with, the dish was almost cold. Second, the bun was so stale, it could not be eaten. I confronted the manager with the dish, so he could see for himself. He confirmed the poor quality, apologized and promised to speak to everyone in the kitchen. At the end, neither a reduction of the bill nor a free coffee or drink was offered.

Coco Safar - Sea Point I found it terrible disgusting to pay for a small piece of Cheese cake about 8cm wide for R145.

Although a really difficult time for us as a family, with my sister suffering with MND / ALS - we try to make as many of her wishes / bucket list items a reality. One being a visit to Coco Safar in Sea Point. Trust me it was well worth the wait and the long time saving. Their selection of croissants makes you want to sit there all day and try each and every one. It is an experience in itself just visiting but to top it all their service is excellent, each waitron greeting you with the greatest smile and efficiency that will make you return again and again, even for only a quick cup of coffee! #WIN for Coco Safar!!!!
