The worst possible service imaginable, I am pretty sure this is a from for some kind of scam. They don't respond to emails or phone calls, their online service doesn't work and tells you to phone them on the phones they don't answer ... and they have your money. SCAM

On Friday 26 August I received a notification from a client in England advising that he had made a deposit into my Nedbank account via Exchange4free. I then received an E-mail from Exchange4free containing a form which had to be completed for the SA Reserve Bank regarding the transfer. I completed the very simple form and was advised that the money would be deposited into my account that same day (yesterday) This morning the payment was reflecting in my account. I am very impressed with the service that I have received.

I received money from abroad on Friday, and Exchange4Free notified me to declare the funds with the Reserve Bank. Usually, such process will take a minute with FNB, and Fund will appear immediately into my account. It's been a week and I still have not received those funds into my account. When I request an answer, I keep on getting the same response that the funds were transferred to my bank. I am so disappointed by the service because this is a small amount relative to what I receive into my FNB account either directly or through PayPal on monthly basis.

While I have in the past had reasonable customer service from Exchang4Free, in the beginning, I was especially patient since I wanted to get to know the company's systems and do things the right way - filling out forms for each of my receiving accounts, giving leeway for slow-down of payments coming in from international sources. However, there appears to be a pattern of slow payouts and of disowning responsibility for these extremely slow payments into my accounts along with passing the buck when mistakes are made. The money does not arrive as directed by the company sending it because Exchange4Free appear to have a system that makes it extremely slow to receive payments that once took hours rather than days. They have stock phrases in the customer service line, so you'll hear "it's not on our system yet" and "we pass payments after 7 pm at night" over and over again, for payments that previously would have reached your account that very day. I love to support South African companies, home grown to offer great services. I love South African initiative and drive and believe we are world class. However, when it comes to Exchange4Free, the Jury's out. Perhaps they will get better in time? At the moment, receiving money via their service is a Nightmare playing out during the day in "it's not on our system" and in the "overnight" payments, that again, are often not there the next day either.

I first met Mark Lawson, MD of Exchange 4 Free, by sheer chance at the Travel Indaba (Durban ICC) over the weekend of 7-9 May 2016. I attended the Travel Indaba in the hopes of sourcing new clients in the travel industry. I did not go there with the intention of finding a currency exchange company.

Their logo "send and receive money for free globally" (or something similar) caught my attention, as up until this point, I was using my Bidvest World Currency card to send/receive money. The problem was that Bidvest was robbing me blind at a ridiculous 6% currency conversion fee, in addition to a $3.75 ATM withdrawal fee.

Although international currency exchange was not the primary reason for me attending the Indaba, I got very curious as to how this whole process worked, and Mark Lawson was there to answer all my questions. Even after I returned back home (to Cape Town) from the Indaba, I still had many questions as to how it worked as I've never sent or received money internationally prior to this.

Mark and his team, Marco Contreiras and Matthew Lawson, assisted me with all my questions. I finally signed up as a client, and they even allowed me to transfer as little as R19,000, even though they generally only accept from R30,000 and higher. I was a little nervous as I was not sure how long it would take in practice, since the Russian banks advised a 10-day waiting period. Exactly one week later, the money landed into my Russian bank account, and their fees were so much lower than Bidvest's ridiculously high rate of 6%.

I would certainly encourage any person to make use of Exchange 4 Free, not only because their rates are the lowest in the nation, but mostly because they take the time to answer all your questions, and at times, Mark even answered some of my emails as late as 11pm at night, which is unheard of these days.

Thanks for making me a believer in your product and service and I'll most certainly keep using Exchange 4 Free as my preferred currency exchange provider from hence forth. Bidvest Bank just lost me as a customer - at least on international currency exchange transactions, and I would like to encourage everyone seeking an honest, no-BS service provider, to make use of Exchange 4 Free.

Regards,
Nazeem Dollie
a South African patriot now living in the Russian Federation
(formerly from Cape Town)
