My daughter and I went straight from the airport to the V&A branch. What an amazing experience we had with Paula! She was so gentle and compassionate. She treated us like princesses!. They also allowed us to leave our luggage in the salon whilst quickly going out to eat something small. How amazing and incredible is this? Thank you so so much! We hope to see you again! With love, Petra and Vianne

If I could give this business a 10 star rating I would. I have one of the most difficult hairs due to my mixed ethnicity and the stylist I am working with really understands my requirements - it is a time and place where I could close my eyes, relax and let them work my hair. The salon owner is one of the most hard-working and caring people that I have come across, she is there everyday, making sure the clients are taken care of. This hair salon is made of loyal staff members who trained by Mr Frank Fowden himself and who have been there for decades. They are some of the most professional and respectful people I know. They go beyond to ensure that the clients are happy and walk out feeling great inside and outside !

Worst experience at a hairdresser of my life, and to make it worse it was my wedding day. I made the booking in-person and made a 2nd appointment to discuss using hair extensions. The stylist was very professional, knew how to fit them, and told me to bring them on the day. On the day of the wedding, they did not put me with that stylist (which the salon acknowledged was their “hair extension expert”) and instead put me with someone totally inexperienced who had no idea how to fit them. We toiled there for an hour.. she fit them so loose that my hands could fit through the band.. she did not understand how the elastic band fitted and tried to fit a full head of extensions at the bottom of my head (clearly wrong and wasted time). She seemed highly resistant to cutting the extensions even though I mentioned I wanted this done REPEATEDLY. Eventually, so much time passed that I was late for my make-up. We had to literally leave the extensions altogether and I arrived late at my wedding with poorly blow dried limp hair. It was deeply upsetting. On a person’s wedding day, give them a professional stylist. I would not recommend that anyone use this hairdresser.

Incredibly unfriendly and unhelpful. I never leave reviews, but think this warrants it because they were downright aggressive. Extremely rude owner/manager and her assistant! Never go there, please, you WILL regret it. LACK OF PROFESSIONALISM, at all!!

V&A waterfront , cape town, is very disrespectful to its clients and this seriously degrades their customer service. we were clients my husband, myself and my son. until one day, I secured an appointment for my son who was then 18 months. He already had had his hair cut there. When i arrived (on time) to my son's appointment, the manager told me there was nothing to cut on his head (trust me there was plenty!!) and sent me back home... She surely has no kids and does not understand that a mum has many other things to do, and that it already takes her about 1h to pick up baby from creche, drive to shopping mall, park there , take out baby of pram, walk to salon. All that, to be sent home upon arrival for a such a poor, dishonest, sad reason. Madam, if you just hate kids and do not want them in your salon, please simply refuse bookings for kids! this would save us time and energy to us all. you just lost your salon 3 clients... at least.

Wow! How horrid! Arrived 7 mins late for an appointment, after calling to say that I needed directions and I was told that “it’s 10 mins past” and told in such a rude attitude that there next client were shortly arriving, implying that the salon couldn’t take us. I then phoned (as I was in the toilet) to gain a better understanding of the situation & told the salon that they had “****ed off my business partner” I was told that I was swearing at an old lady. Hung up on. I then phoned back and asked to have the owners/managers details; name and email address and was told NO & Hung up on, again. Treated like a criminal at this salon, ended up leaving the shopping center in tears. What an awful experience. I feel terrible for international people who have gone there. So not proudly South African service. Rude people shouldn’t be in the service industry. I don’t pay you to be rude at me, I pay you to make me feel beautiful. I’m actually shocked!

My experience with Frank Fowden at the Waterfront last Sunday was absolutely appalling.
I went just to have my roots coloured, and they charged me R 910. Other hairdressers I've been to charged me max R 500 for roots only including a natural blowdry.
When I asked the staff at Frank Fowden to dry my hair a bit because it was completely wet-they did the colour only and nothing else was included in that price-they asked me for an extra R 350!!!!!!! This is robbery!!
So, I left the shop with wet hair, and when I told them that I had never heard of something like that in my entire life the lady answered: "We are different". I agree, they are different: they are shameless thieves!!!

On top of everything, when I asked if I could recharge my phone for just a few minutes because I had to get hold of my husband and my battery was flat, they said no. I have never received such bad service anywhere, and least of all did I expect it at the Waterfront, which is supposed to be an international location and set an example of service in the country.

Lastly, I had to ask for an invoice, since they had no intention of giving me one. i don't know how they could have been any worse
