I visited this place on Saturday around 14:00 with my family. We were seated right away, even without a booking, which was a nice start and gave a good first impression. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. When I asked the waiter for drinks (G****tizers), she brought dirty glasses. We asked her to return in about five minutes, but after waiting nearly 20 minutes, I eventually got up to speak to the waiter myself. I explained that the glasses were dirty and asked for new ones. Another waiter came over, looking visibly irritated, and handed me a glass. At that point, I decided it was best just to leave. The manager approached to ask what was wrong, but honestly, I didn’t feel like explaining the whole story again. I simply said that the service was not great and the waiters didn’t seem to care. We paid for the drinks and left without even eating, so I can’t comment on the food — but based on the service alone, it was a very disappointing experience.

Having now gone to this venue many times over the months, it's time to advise that one should go for a meal here when you’re at your most patient, not hungry and definitely not on a timeline. Though the food has always been incredible on each and every visit (well done to the Kitchen Team), I find that the one thing this establishment lacks in making it a great venue is the nonexistence of service and management. There is seldom a manager around to seat you, therefore, leaving customers to make their own way to available tables and having to try and catch the attention of serving staff in order to be assisted. When you finally have a waitron approach, the experience is: waiting 30 minutes for two coffee’s, an additional 22 minutes for a cup of tea, making it already close to 1-hour before you're able to place your meal order. The meals take about 30 minutes to arrive, which is very acceptable considering the quality that is presented from the kitchen. However, no waitron or management comes to the table to do the necessary approval check with customers – so, if you should require anything additional with your meal, we suggest you ask the staff on arrival of your meals. The management seems to be new during this last visit (August 2024), as they looked more uncertain about the running of the restaurant and mainly stood in the corner hiding from responsibility. Again – the food is really worth the visit, however, this establishment definitely need to “up their game” when it comes to the multitude of Waitrons they have that just don’t seem to do their job at the standard you would expect.

We went for breakfast on the 14th of January 2021. It was our 9 year wedding anniversary and my wife and I decided to take a stroll on the grassy area between the tap room and the deli. There was no signage to say that there are deep and dangerous holes in the grass. You can't see them as the area looks completely level. My wife stepped straight into one of these holes and badly hurt her ankle. Nobody came to our aid. Not one staff member even came to see if we were ok. I ran to the tap room to get some ice just to help with the swelling. I understand with the pandemic social distancing is key but seriously. Everyone could see her lying there writhing in pain and we got absolutely no help. This was the most disgusted I've been in a long time. I've been visiting this deli for years! Even before there was a tap room. And I don't know if I'll ever return. I'm so deeply disappointed. I'm considering legal action as there was no warning boards and the medical bills are through the roof just for one special breakfast that we were so looking forward to. This was terrible. Not one person came to check on us. You don't even have a trained first aider amongst the staff. How is this health and safety protocol.

While having lunch at Joostenberg Bistro on Tuesday 14 August , a member of our group collapsed. The care and attention we received was excellent - from both the Manager on duty and a young man name Nicholas. We have always enjoyed the quality of food at both the restaurant and delicatessen at this Bistro, but this experience takes our regard for the staff to another level. We extend our grateful thanks once again.
