I am writing to express my deep disappointment and frustration regarding the handling of my complaint about my grandfather's ill-treatment by healthcare professionals. It has been incredibly difficult to process not only the loss of my grandfather, but also the lack of empathy and accountability shown by those responsible for his care. Despite following the prescribed process and filing a formal complaint, the matter was closed without any satisfactory resolution. This has added significant emotional distress during an already painful time, as I feel that my concerns and the suffering of my grandfather were dismissed without proper consideration. The lack of empathy from medical professionals in South Africa, coupled with the closure of my complaint without any meaningful follow-up, has been heart-wrenching. It is beyond me why healthcare providers—whose very duty is to care for patients with dignity—seem to be allowed to operate without consequence when they fail in this fundamental responsibility. The impact this has had on my family is immeasurable. Not only are we grieving a loss, but we are also left feeling helpless, as if our voices and the well-being of our loved ones don’t matter. I implore you to reconsider the way complaints are handled and to take a more compassionate approach in ensuring that patients and their families receive the care and attention they deserve. After trying to resolve an issue with my medical aid I had no choice but to report them to the ombudsman. I submitted all the required documents and within two weeks my case was presented for discussion and outcome. The ombudsman acknowledged my concerns and identified that my medical aid was indeed not acting according to regulations and our agreement. Thank you so much for truly listening and resolving the issue.

I had quiet an appalling experience I lodged complaint with bankmed was advised to escalate to ombudsman did that first week of Jan was advised response is in 4 weeks till date nothing then you ask yourself what is the whole point of such boards if they *********** like these entities it is saddening because I am now permanently living with a metal plate on my foot as a result of ****ed underwriting by bankmed which complaints department not helpful neither is ombudsman

I have laid a complaint with the ombudsman regarding Discovery Medical aid, last year. To this date no person from the ombudsman has feedbacked me. Are their jobs to protect consumers or just go in the office to get paid. Seems like the norm now in SA. Why do they have a complaints department is no one assists the public. Pathetic service from a department that is supposed to be for the South African consumers

What do you do when you write to the medical aid ombudsman and he does not respond? Well, you wait eight days and you send him a polite reminder. When he ignores that too, you go to the website and complete the details in that little "Contact us" window. When you still do not hear from him, you start to wonder if he really exists? Three letters, 14 days and absolute silence. It is a beautiful website, full of promises and but where is this person? To make it worse, they do not even know what I wanted. It was just info, not even a complaint. Can someone help please! It seems to me that you just can not #WIN.
