Active since Jul 2020
Sun Valley Investments are the owners of the Sun Valley Center in which Virgin Active is housed. In recent times, I have noticed, as a Virgin Active member, that "Shopper Assistants" have been positioned in the gym parking area. This parking area generally does not cater for shoppers so the "Assistants" have resorted to harassing gym members for hand-outs after directing drivers into and out of parking bays. I have attempted on numerous occasions to engage Sun Valley Investments with regard to this very irritating situation but to no avail. I can only assume that the income derived from allowing these unfortunate souls to pester gym members is a lucrative sum of money. Unfortunately, Virgin Active/Brait also seem toothless to counter this scourge which is going to cost them in membership. The principal reason for this review is to share a heads-up with those that are considering renting premises owned by Sun Valley Investments. Read between the lines above and know what you could be letting yourself in for.
As reasonably regular patrons to this Cattle Baron, my wife and I decided to take advantage of the "Half Price burger" special on the evening of 19/08/2024. We were attended to by Waitron George and the Maitre d popped by every now and then. We ordered our burgers and after a short while, George returned to advise that my Blue Cheese Burger choice was not part of the special. Having had this burger on a few specials in the past, together with the fact that neither the restaurant's poster on the front window or the the menu itself, excluded this burger, I asked George to summons the manager to our table. George shortly returned to say that management had decided that they would give me my Blue Cheese burger after all. After about a 35 minute wait, the Maitre d arrived with our burgers, neither of which was a Blue Cheese burger. The mistake was acknowledged and after a few more minutes the Maitre d returned with the correct item. The burgers presented were a shadow of what we normally receive - it comprised a small number of chips, a very small patty on one half of the roll with a s****ful of blue cheese sauce and a dry, stale second half of the roll that was a day or two old. The size and appearance rather reminded me of a Phanda burger offered by a popular take away venue and sells for R40. I politely asked the Maitre d if there was some sort of misunderstanding as this was a burger that normally costs R165.00. He advised me that this was how the Blue Cheese burger was always presented, whether a special or not. We finished our burgers and after a long wait for the tab we eventually got up and paid at the reception. Besides the main disappointment of the burger itself, the service left a lot to be desired, but then again it was a "specials" evening. However, with management blaming everything on the unfortunate George, I thought this was also a bit of a low blow to the waitron.
This dealer offers a great selection of tiling and sanitary ware and the sales service is good. But sadly this is where it ends. We dealt with sales lady Nozi who seemed fairly clued up in the shop. But after having paid for "all" the goods we selected, we discovered that numerous items were not on the quote despite Nozi scanning all the goods to add to our shopping list. We do not live close to this CTM so having to sort out this mess from a distance was frustrating. Finally, after a second payment for the "extras" delivery was promised for 3 days later. On the assigned delivery day we had to stand by till 16h00 as an approximate delivery time cannot be offered. Calls to Nozi at about 15h00 to get confirmation that delivery was still on schedule were met with "I can't get hold of the delivery truck" then refusal by Nozi to answer our calls. Someone claiming to be the manager, Mandla, said he would investigate and phone back but of course this never happened. When the truck eventually arrived, about a third of the goods were not on board. The delivery staff appear to be outsourced so it is pointless trying to deal with the driver. Another call to Mandla and the rest of the goods are promised for the next day. However, what is unacceptable is the fact that it was known from the start that there was a shambles with the loading yet no staff member had the guts to reveal this.
I called this company to perform a chimney sweep. The crew attended and first swept from the ***l downwards as my flue has two elbows. Unfortunately the brush could not negotiate the second bend so sweeping was then commenced from inside the house. I was a bit concerned when the staff member proceeded to sweep the chimney via the fireplace without any covering to contain the soot. Needless to say, the entire lounge was covered with a fine layer of soot. That evening I tried to light a fire but the smoke would not extract so there was clearly a blockage. The next morning my neighbour contacted me to say that my ***l was hanging skew. I contacted Southern Fires and the crew came out again and this time rivetted the ***l back on ( instead of using silicone ). I tried the fireplace again that evening but it was still blocked. I gave up on Southern Fires and sent a flexible pipe up the flue myself. A mass of soot eventually descended and my fireplace was finally in working order. I believe the crew to be totally unprofessional and reckless in their duties. In Southern Fire's defence, management did offer me a full refund which I declined.
I am so tired of having to return rotten ( yes, ROTTEN) meat to Checkers Hyper in Sunvalley, CT. One purchases meat products well before the sell by date and then when you open the pack at the end of the day to prepare supper you find that the product is absolutely putrid. Extremely annoying and the problem goes on and on despite previous complaints. I shall be returning goods again tomorrow. Advice to clients - NEVER purchase a sealed meat product at this store without first getting the staff to open and check it for freshness.
My wife bought me a Kaufman Headlamp for R559.00, not your cheapest light!. The first time I used the item the power switch cover fell off and by the time I realized this, the cover could not be found. On returning from my camping trip, I returned the light on this basis that it was faulty. Takealot rejected the return, DESPITE US ASKING FOR A REPLACEMENT, NOT A REFUND. Their reasoning was that the light had been abused. The interesting thing is that Takealot is suggesting that the rejection was entirely at the hands of the Seller (Camping -Agrinet) yet all fulfilments are handled by Takealot and not the seller. It appears that this Seller is not currently associated with Takealot and neither is the particular headlight still available. I cannot help thinking that considering Takealot therefore had no hold over the Seller, it was easiest to simply reject my request for a replacement. I will be very wary of buying any electronic equipment from Takealot again where the Seller is an unknown entity.
The good premiums offered by this company are not worth the frustration when you have to claim. I experienced a housebreaking on the 28th January which caused serious damage to one of my insured properties. The damage was discovered on Sunday 29th and I contacted Momentum on their 24/7 phone line - I was in a dilemma as the insured building was now without a backdoor and the alarm system was disabled. The building was also vacant. Nobody answered the "emergency" phone line OR the email address. A Momentum staff member revealed at a later stage that "nobody works there on a Sunday". I am yet to receive an explanation for this lack of service. We are approaching two months since the incident and this claim has still not been finalized - You can send as many emails as you like but you never get a response. Now I have to go through the hassle of the Ombudsman.
I purchased a gammon from this branch of Spar on 3/12/22. The advertising board at the fridge stated "Boneless Gammon". A few days later on preparing this gammon I noticed that it was actually "bone in" and furthermore, the product label was partially covered over by an in store label that seemed to meticulously hide the "Bone in" wording of the original label. I have given the branch the opportunity to explain the dubious advertising and labelling but they have chosen to remain silent. This leaves me with little doubt as to the desired objective of the contentious label. Check exactly what you are purchasing before you pay at this branch.
I contacted this company to install a TV link (eye). Ward Engelbrecht, the owner, assessed my DSTV setup and recommended a system that would cost me about R2100.00 to upgrade, which in turn would allow a TV link installation. Within days of this work ( and having paid in full) the new decoder gave repeated error notifications. I contacted Mr. Engelbrecht who told me it was not his problem, and that I should contact Multichoice. After numerous frustrating (and idiotic) calls to the Multichoice centre I eventually took the decoder to Multichoice. Having stood in a queue for 40 minutes, Multichoice informed me that the decoder was unsuitable for my requirements which is contrary to what All in one Install had initially told me. Willing to forgive Mr. Engelbrecht for his mistake, I simply asked if he would return to re-install my original system. Despite numerous calls/messages he never arrived. After loads more Multichoice frustration, I managed to re-instate the original DSTV system myself. Furthermore, All in one Install, will not or can not furnish me with any form of invoice for this work. This is at best unethical and probably illegal.
