Standard Bank Homeloan Insurance
Based on recent customer reviews, Standard Bank Homeloan Insurance is facing significant dissatisfaction across its claims and service experience. Customers consistently mention prolonged delays in resolving geyser, roof leak, and burst pipe claims, alongside unanswered emails and calls that go straight to lengthy hold queues. A recurring theme is poor communication from assigned consultants, contractors failing to follow through, and claims being closed or rejected without clear explanation. Policyholders frequently express frustration that premiums are deducted reliably while claim support feels absent, leaving properties unsafe and damage worsening.

I submitted a claim to Standard Bank Insurance on Monday 18 May 2026, received a reference number and no feedback since. I’ve been trying to contact them to follow up but no resolution. I’ve been on hold for 39 minutes with no one answering. Keeps on saying I am 8th in the queue. When I eventually got hold of them, my claim has not been allocated yet, no clear resolution or next steps could be explained by the consultant. I’m very unhappy with this service, considering I have been paying insurance for the past 7 years. I will not be recommending them to anyone I know.

On the 1 May 2026 I show in my garden that water was flowing from my stop tap lid in my garden. I opened it and the water was spraying out. I contacted Standard Bank home loan insurance the devision that deals with house emergencies. I told the lady the problem. Some time later I got a call from the plumbing company that Standard Bank use to repair the leaking pipe. Later the plumbers came to look at the problem and took photos and communicated with their office all on what's apps I think. The plumber told me he can't switch off the water by the municipality stop meter and have informed his office and the water will be turned off later that day or tomorrow then they will repair the pipe. A few hours later I had no correspondence from Standard Bank insurance neither the plumbing company. I phoned again Standard Bank insurance and asked the lady what is the way forward I am loosing water and my account will be high. She said she will contact the plumbing company. A few hours later no correspondence from Standard Bank insurance and neither the plumbing company. I phoned again Standard Bank insurance to find out the way forward. Then this lady told me she spoke to the plumbing company that told her that I must phone the municipality to turn-off the water . WHY AFTER ALL THESE HOURS DO I ONLY GETBTHIS INFORMATION. THE PLUMBERS COULD HAVE TOLD ME THAT WHEN THEY WERE HERE AT MY PLACE. THEN THE STANDARD BANK INSURANCE COMPANY LADY ASKED ME "CAN YOU TURN OFF THE WATER BY THE STOP TAP."

The only way I can get assistance from Standard Bank Homeowners Insurance is through hellopeter! So here goes, Geyser burst on evening of 13/4. Claim submitted on 14/4 before 8:00. No feedback, Plumber came to assess and can't work on the electrical / solar geyser. Standard bank does not reply on my e-mails. Calls are useless, I hold for 10 mins at a time. The stupid tracking app doesn't work. I have to constantly follow up - is that not their job to keep me as the customer in the loop. So now I am constantly phoning for info. Holding 10 mins just for a call to be answered..... Really - how many days should I be without a geyser and hot water. Please do your job and call me and get this sorted on day 3! Hello Peter, I am extremely frustrated with how Standard Bank Home Insurance (HLB***5/***1175) has handled my roof repair complaint. The issue was formally reported in December 2025 after contractors sent in June 2025 did a very poor job, which resulted in the roof continuing to leak during the rainy season. I was initially informed that the same contractors would return to fix the problem. However, they repeatedly postponed their visits and failed to resolve the issue. Because of their poor workmanship and continuous delay tactics, I clearly instructed the complaints specialist that I no longer want those contractors on my property and that Standard Bank should appoint new contractors to properly repair the roof. Despite numerous follow-ups with both the complaints specialist and the team leader, I have been taken from pillar to post without any meaningful assistance. During the recent heavy rains, the roof continues to leak severely and I have been forced to place buckets inside my home to prevent further damage to my furniture and property. There is a a clear email trail documenting my attempts to resolve this matter, yet no action has been taken while Standard Bank continues to deduct my insurance premiums every month without fail. I am extremely dissatisfied with the treatment I have received as a customer, and I am now seriously considering moving both my home loan and insurance away from Standard Bank.
