3 months back I went with my brother to collect his car there because he took it in for service. While I was there I decided to enquire about my book since well it was giving me issues. The guy that assisted knew exactly what was wrong with the car and he was correct because this was the part I have been having issues with. But due to financial constraints I couldn't fix the boot. Then I make an appointment, took my car in for boot fixing. The following day just after they fixed my boot, the boot could not open until today. Its on and off. I went there to try and explain to them my challeng only to find out that they have replaced the wrong part , I honestly didnt have energy to argue because I could see that they really failed to do their job. Week passed by and the problem continued, I called them to try to talk to their service manager. I was told that the service manager is busy and they took my numbers and said he will call me back. Until today I haven't received any call from the service manager. I was told that I need to replace the part again and pay again, which I feel like it unfair because they decided to replace a wrong part.

Dear VW South Africa / HelloPeter Team, I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with the service I have received from McCarthy VW Wonderboom regarding a persistent issue with my VW Polo Vivo, purchased in mid-November 2024. I would also like to add that upon purchasing the vehicle, my sales representative informed me if this car was involved in an accident it won't fall under cover of the maintenance plan. Shortly after purchasing the vehicle, I noticed a noise coming from the steering rack and reported it to one of the maintenance officers at the dealership. I was informed that it was safe to drive to the Eastern Cape, and that the issue would be attended to upon my return. When I returned, I immediately took the car back to the dealership and again reported the steering rack issue. While other problems (such as the water pump system and brake issues) were attended to, the steering rack problem was repeatedly dismissed or deferred. Each time I raised this concern, I was met with excuses and no real resolution. Despite several visits to the dealership — including ensuring that my scheduled services were completed on time — the steering rack issue was never properly addressed. In October 2025, I requested the contact number (Whatsapp number) of the maintenance officer and I visited the dealership again. The team only tightened the suspension, but the noise persisted. I even recorded the sound and sent it to the maintenance officer, who asked me to bring the car back in. After leaving the car with them for an entire day, I was later told that there were scratches underneath the vehicle and that one rim was bent, allegedly from hitting a pothole. I disagreed with this assessment, as I had reported the steering rack noise since the first week of owning the vehicle — well before any such damage could have occurred. Following ongoing back-and-forth discussions, I was advised to contact VW Assist, which I did on Friday, 31 October 2025. VW Uitenhage contacted me and said they would investigate the matter. On 6 November 2025, I was informed that VW Wonderboom concluded the damage was self-inflicted. I find this conclusion unacceptable, as the issue was reported immediately after purchase, has been documented in open job cards, and has been repeatedly ignored by the dealership. Furthermore, my motor plan expires on 17 November 2025, and it appears that this delay in addressing the issue may be intentional so that the matter falls outside the warranty coverage period. I am requesting that VW South Africa intervene urgently to: Reassess the vehicle and the steering rack issue fairly, considering the original reports. Ensure the repair is covered under the motor plan, as the issue predates any alleged damage. Hold McCarthy VW Wonderboom accountable for the repeated neglect and lack of resolution. I have been a loyal VW customer, but this experience has been extremely disappointing and frustrating. I hope that VW will act promptly to restore my confidence in the brand and ensure fair treatment for customers.

I booked my car in for service at VW Wonderboom Pretoria on 1/3/2024, they asked if I wanted my wheels aligned and I agreed. So an annual service and wheel alignment were conducted on my car . About 5Km away from the dealer other motorists indicated that I needed to stop because my rear left wheel looks like it wants to come out . In my mind I'm thinking “but I just got my wheels aligned, maybe these people want to hijack me” , luckily as I drove, a motorist who was fami**** made way and asked me to roll down my window which I did, and I was told about the wheel. I had to stop. I called VW to inform them about the incident, the first person that answered the called hung up on me. The second one told me that the service advisor was busy and they could not refer/transfer me to another person. I left my car on the side of the road and went back to VW Wonderboom. When I got there , they gave me one of the technicians to accompany me to where the vehicle was . The first thing he did when we got to the car was to tighten the wheel, meaning the wheel left the dealership with a wheel that was not properly tightened after they had conducted the wheel alignment. The technician mentioned that the hub was damaged and there was nothing he can do at that point. He indicated that it would be risky to drive it in that condition. So I had to call my insurance and tow it back to VW. Fast forward Monday 4/3/2024. I am expected to buy a hub as the dealership doesn’t want to take accountability for what occurred after the negligence from their side.

I think the service centre is understaffed. I make arrangements when booking my car for service and then remind the staff in the morning. I politely request to receive my car at 15:00 to allow me to fetch kids at school. I have never received my car at the said time (the 5-6 times I took my car between 2022-24), it’s always 1-2 hours late. Does not even matter if my car is first in the line 😞. Of all the cars I have owned … ford, Opel, BMW. This was a fair request. For some reason, this is something VW cannot do. The strange thing is VW customer care call me everytime about my experience. I give my honest feedback and here we are 2 years later and nothing has changed. This dealer is close to home. My next service will be closer to work. I hope this experience is dealer specific, but I think it’s a VW problem. The staff always complain that the system is slow when they need to give me paperwork detailing work carried out. I am stuck with VW as I love my car. And it’s been very reliable limiting my interaction with VW 😌.

I had an issue with the car locking gears, i then took it into VW midrand and was told that they replaced the clutch this was on the 7th dec 2023. On the 21st dec 2023 while on my way to limpopo the car stopped moving it did not read gears the cars was towed to VW Wonderboom PTA and i was told my clutch is wornout which does not make sense that it could be damaged within 2 weeks after "replacement" . since then no one called to give me an update , i called on the 22nd dec 2023 they told me the car was in the queue. again they were quiet i called on the 28th dec they said they dont do repairs on sat and again on the 2nd jan 2024 and i was told Zack will call me back but he did not, on the 3rd i called again and i was told that the job card was transfered to Tony because Zack was not there the i spoke to Tony and he told me that i need to pay R18000 becuause the car warrantee expried on the 31-12-2023, i called VW SA to check and i was told the warantee will expire 31-12-2024, i called to notify them and asked what ecxactly is the reason my car is not being fixed i could not get an answer,i laid a complaine with VW SA on the 4th and on the 9th the call centre lady i laid a complain with from VW SA called and told me they have not done anything becuase they are waiting for my authorization, i told her am not going to authorize a repair that is under warrantee for me to pay R18000 she said she will i gect back to meo on the wednesday 9th jan 2024. I'm very dissapointed with the service I receive from VW Wonderboom. I have taken my car 4 times in 2/3 months for scratching and other weird sounds coming from the front wheels . The car would be ok for few days then start again. I'm not sure how the guys are identifying the problem/ issues with these weird sounds and fixing the problem but it seems like what they are doing does not solve the problem. Can you please kindly look into this matter

This dealership is very *********, I referred a client all the way from Orkney,North West to purchase a vehicle in Wonderboom Pretoria , they **** on an add saying they will pay a spotter fee when you refer someone. They told me that it will be paid. After the deal is done, they said I should waiting for dealer principal and for the finance to clear the payment, but the next thing their Sales manager is refusing to pay the fee. The Sales Executive Ndivhuwa is a *****, she promised to pay the fee then later on changed her story. They are very ********* and dishonest.
