I am writing to inquire about the portion sizes at the Boschendal Farm Shop. On our recent visit, my husband received a very small, quarter-slice portion of cake as part of the advertised special, which differs significantly from previous experiences. Are inconsistent portion sizes now the standard? I suggest that patrons are notified in advance if they are paying for a reduced-size slice.

was very disappointed with my recent visit to Boschendal Wine Estate. I had overseas guests visiting Cape Town and wanted to give them a memorable wine farm experience. Given Boschendal’s reputation and iconic status, I thought it would be the perfect choice. Unfortunately, the experience did not meet expectations. The gardens appeared neglected, and the historic homestead was closed. At the deli, the meal was underwhelming – my steak was overcooked – and overall the atmosphere felt tired rather than welcoming. When I enquired about directions to the gardens and homestead, the response I received was unhelpful, which added to the disappointment. I had visited Boschendal about ten years ago and was truly impressed back then, so I had hoped to recreate that same special experience for my guests. Sadly, this time I could see their disappointment as well. I eventually decided to take them to Vergelegen in Somerset West, and although it required a longer drive, the contrast was striking: immaculate gardens, excellent wine tasting, and a wonderful dessert at Stables. Friendly and helpful staff from the moment we arrived at the *****he difference in overall experience was worlds apart when hosting international visitors. Boschendal remains an estate with incredible potential, but in my view, it is not currently living up to the standard it once set.

Absolutely terrible experience... staff is useless and the service is absolutely **********... would not waste my time there again. There are beautiful farms to visit in close by with much better service and experience.

Beautiful picnic at Boschendal Wine Estate. There venue is stunning with majestic mountain views, the menu is well thought out and delicious. Backrest chairs and a blanket are provided, restrooms are spotless. Kudos for the lovely play area for the kids and the Jenga and bean bag toss for the adults!! The farm shop is well priced with something for everyone! Only gripe with the picnic site is when it's busy, such as today (mothers day), the wait staff do get orders wrong/late.

We tried to resolve this the day we were there. A promised email was NOT sent. We then sent an email, we have not received a reply. It's been 5 days. Boschendal is beautiful and pet friendly...big plus. Staff, I find to be rude and dismissive. They have little or no product knowledge and it's evident that yet again the tourists take centre stage. The butcher refused to have the excess fat removed from a piece of biltong. Reason....they have no knife. This is the 2nd time and it was brought to the attention of Patrick( General Manager) previously who assured me that it is not their standard . We went from Deli to Farmshop to Restaurant to find someone who could help us resolve the other issues we had, and all staff members passed the buck. I could write a book on it, but ultimately the staff at the deli seemed nonchalant. The description of the baked goods is not what's inside, the rib eye steaks were the toughest I've ever had to cut through and after that workout, my jaw couldn't handle the spasm anymore from trying to chew it. It's so disappointing . WE spent so much money there.. We've asked to be contacted so we can show them the terrible quality of the steaks . Still nothing.

Estate Picnic: Disappointed based on previous experience which included estate wine in the picnic basket. Food quality not up to standard and certainly not nearly worth what we paid for. Too stingy to even include a water or other drink. Horrified by how the historic homestead has been ruined by turning it into a modern art gallery which is completely unrelated to the estate. Very disappointed.

At R240 per person for a pretty uninspiring picnic hamper, this is not an inexpensive lunch option. This could have been forgiven if the service had not been so poor. We consistently had to fetch our own bottles of wine from the bar, despite the fact that three staff members were chatting at the bar area. When I paid for wine, the waiter asked if I wanted to add a tip! When I and others told him that that was unacceptable behavior from a waiter, he said that he did not know that and that he only been working at the picnic venue for two weeks! In discussion, he also said that staff who had been allocated to a particular group were loathe to assist another table as the tips would then have to be split
