I have never come across such a total shambles and incompetency. I tried to book Hluleka Nature Reserve fir a few nights. My booking was accepted ( did this on-line) and had to pay straight away. No problem with that. That same day of booking, I received an email from EPTCA telling me my booking was cancelled because the Park was closed fir renovations and that they had no idea when it would’ve-open. Seems they have no idea about anything. Why this Park could be booked in the first instance in view of the above is appalling. I then phoned them direct. They asked for the reason I was cancelling…can you believe it! Then, the frustration of the very messy steps to try and get a refund…something simple but made very frustrating and full of totally un-necessary bureaucracy. Adding insult to injury is that it can take 3 weeks to get your money back! Never…never ever again!

I was at their Hluleka branch for 2 days. When I got ready to leave at 06:45am the gates were still locked. After looking for someone who can help and calling the office for an hour, I saw water coming out the drain in some house. It turns out the manager stays the. I told her what happened and she gave me an unwelcome and response and told me I was wrong irregardless that their invoice states gate hour are from 06:00am to 18:00pm. Her attitude ruined my stay.

The person who handles reservations at Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency for Hluleka Nature Reserve is rude. For example, I sent an email enquiring about availability at the mentioned reserve and this reservationist replied without even mentioning my name or even signing off the email with his name. All one is dealing with is just "reservations", no name. For a tourism business it would be nice if potential clients could at least be treated with etiquette. Even if the dates I wanted are fully booked, still, a representative in a tourism business is meant to be welcoming and not come across as if you are bothering them by just simply enquiring. unfortunately, this has happened two times already.

I was shocked to see the 565% increase (R20.00 to R133.00) in the tariff for an afternoon drive in the Oviston Nature Reserve. How can you possible justify the crazy R 145.00 per person charge (including the conservation fee)? The “roads” are in a shocking condition and not maintained, there are no decent toilet facilities, you need a 4X4 vehicle to negotiate some sections of the tracks (one cannot really call it roads), some of the tracks are now non-existent as they have been covered with veld. The only explanation that I can find is that you would rather not have any visitors. As a means of comparison with far superior reserves which offer excellent facilities, for example: - Addo Elephant National Park - R 86.00 per person for a day visit. - Mountain Zebra National Park - R 59.00 per person for a day visit. And with a Wild Card, the rates work out even cheaper. I used to enjoy afternoon drives with my family in the Oviston Nature Reserve. Sadly, this is not going to be possible anymore.

So disgusted with how ECPTA run the Baviaanskloof. Its a public road but they stop people from driving on this public road. All parks should also be open on Level 2 lockdown. I've driven a far way to show people the Baviaanskloof just to get to the boom and get refused access on this public road. They have no right to stop traffic on this road.
