Xolelwa , the waitress who served us decided to ass "staff Tshirt" of R120 on our bill. I dont know if this was her way of getting a tip or a genuine mistake, but her reaction was'nt shock. We only noticed this error after paying R570. She corrected the bill and brought another one for R403. She said we must pay again cz on her side, there's no proof that the 1st payment was successful. After showing her on the bank app ,we were still told to pay again and promised that we would get a refund the next day. This happened on Monday the 21st of April and we are still fighting for our money. We have to keep calling to follow up like we are begging for our money. On this economy, no one can afford to donate R570 just for fun. We budget and have plans for our money and we should'nt be struggling to get it back like it was our fault.

Our experience at Grass Roof was disappointing due to several issues with service and communication. Firstly, the service was slow, and our waiter seemed unsure about menu options. We had to repeatedly ask for information about the curry of the day. As a table of three, we ordered burgers and specifically requested no salad, opting for chips instead. However, we were not informed that chips were unavailable until our food arrived with salad. When we requested to replace the salad with onion rings, we were initially told we’d need to pay extra. Only after speaking to the manager was this issue resolved. To make matters worse, we later saw a neighboring table being served chips. Upon inquiry, we were told they were “children’s chips,” which felt inconsistent and unfair. Additionally, an umbrella fell on my friend and me during our meal. Despite this incident, no staff or management came to assist us—a fellow customer had to step in. When we raised this with the manager, we received no apology or acknowledgment. The manager just stood there with a smirk on her face. Overall, the lack of communication, inattentive service, and disregard for customer experience made this visit very disappointing. Improvements in management and staff training are necessary to avoid such incidents in the future.

The last 2 or 3 times we had gone to buy vegetable from Grass Roof we had such bad quality produce. The vegetable had already gone off and the potatoes were so soft within a day. I had to throw them away after getting sick from what could only be the potatoes as I had nothing other than potato and onion that morning. The brinjals were hollow and soft and in the fridge there were moldy vegetables in packaging that I don't know how long it had been there. The one thing I can excuse was when there were spiders in the spring onion the first time I bought vegetables from there, nature is nature, however, if I spend money at a shop instead of growing my own I expect hygiene and fresh good to be a top priority. And it is not. My sister was told messaged and told that the purposefully make the WI-FI slow at the restaurant and it was told to her kind message with sarcasm and unprofessionalism. She is kind enough to excuse their incredibly slow service that I, and many others have previously experienced to work there and order drinks and food during the time she spends there working and was responded to with the typical response we can now expect from them which is pure unprofessionalism and immaturity. The produce situation can be easily resolved but unfortunately it seems that the attitude that the person has who responds to reviews and social messages for them is not fit for the duty and lacks customer service skills in every way. They are going to affect the business terribly and it would be horrible for the owner to have to pick up pieces of some unprofessional employee with a serious attitude problem.

I was super impressed by the large selection of breakfast dishes on the menu. We were in a party of 4 people and everyone commented on their delicious meal that was well presented and at a very reasonable cost. The staff was super friendly. Will definetly be back.

Ah! the Lockdown, Cabin Fever, looking forward to the time we 'SEE' Stage 1. To once again enjoy and relax, looking at the unpolluted sea and smog-free air from the loverly settings and atmosphere of this idealistic venue. There are fresh 'homegrown' veggies available from their gardens. There are horses, 'train' rides for children and walks, It's a whole Vegetable Gardens with Hot Houses. When we get to Stage 1, no doubt, I'm sure that once again Saturday mornings the place will be abuzz with Park Runners doing the Trail inside the Grass Roof Grounds, the Cyclist using the Grass Roof as a 'Water hole' during their rides along Seaview. The Grass Roof Tea Garden/ Restaurant. PE.

We came for lunch 04 Jan 2016, we waited for a menu till I had to call a waitress asked for a menu and a glass of water. We waited for 30min for someone to come a take our order and bring us a glass of water. We left the restaurant without being served. I informed the restaurant manager Moses, who also was one of the people walked pass without asking have we been served. I will never go back or recommend the place to anyone as this was my second bad experience with Grassroof restaurant.
