Driver without valid licence – forced to walk home at night after Uber failed to act
On Sunday, 9 November 2025, at around 21:30, I booked an UberGo ride in Somerset West to return home responsibly after having a glass of wine. The driver ran through several red lights and, upon arrival, was denied access at the estate gate because he could not produce a valid driver’s licence. As a result, I was forced to walk 2.5 km at around 22:00 at night to fetch my car and drive back to collect my wife, who recently had a hip operation and was unable to walk that distance. I reported this incident immediately, but Uber has ignored my complaint, closed my case without resolution, and even blocked my replies. This is completely unacceptable and shows a serious lack of responsibility and safety oversight. I will not pay the R74 for a ride that was never completed and request an official written apology, investigation report, and confirmation that the driver’s account has been suspended.

Stay Away from Alibaba
When placing an order on Alibaba, the platform pushes you aggressively to purchase “Trade Assurance” as if it guarantees your money and shipment. Don’t be fooled! After 100 days, my order has still not arrived, and Alibaba refuses to refund the payment — despite all the so-called buyer protection. They keep making excuses and shifting responsibility to the supplier. The so-called “insurance” is meaningless. Conclusion: Avoid Alibaba at all costs. Their buyer protection is a marketing trick — not a guarantee.

Frustrating Lack of Response from Nedbank
I’ve been trying to schedule an appointment with my assigned banker at Nedbank for the past four weeks to close a business account. Since Stellenbosch is too far and irrelevant to my business, I requested an appointment closer to my location, either in Somerset West or Strand. Unfortunately, I have received no response to multiple attempts, including emails sent to ***. According to the South African Revenue Services (SARS), a supplier must issue a tax invoice when they make a taxable supply. A taxable supply is any supply of goods or services that is subject to VAT. The invoice must be issued within 21 days of the time the supply was made. There are some exceptions to this rule. For example, a supplier is not required to issue an invoice if the consideration for the supply is R50 or less. However, a document such as a till slip or sales docket indicating the VAT charged by the supplier will be required to verify the input tax deducted. The invoice must contain certain information, including the following: The words "Tax Invoice", "VAT Invoice" or "Invoice" The name, address and VAT registration number of the supplier The name, address and, where the recipient is a vendor, the recipient's VAT registration number The serial number and date of issue of invoice The description of the goods or services supp**** The quantity of the goods or services supp**** The price of the goods or services supp**** The VAT amount charged The invoice must be issued in South African Rand. If a supplier fails to issue an invoice, they may be liable to penalties from SARS. Here are some of the benefits of issuing an invoice: It provides a record of the transaction for both the supplier and the customer. It helps to track the flow of goods and services. It can be used to claim input tax. It can be used as evidence in the event of a dispute. Therefore, it is important for suppliers in South Africa to issue invoices in accordance with the law.
