Visited the new Checkers inside Rosebank Mall. Beautiful grocery store with salad bar. Checkers has come a long way. Its style and presentation is now more upscale than WW. Everything was clean and orderly. This shop features an integrated Starbucks with sit-down tables and benches facing the mall and the store. Clever concept and great service.
Rented a Toyota Corolla for 3 mths. Car was not clean inside, but well maintained mechanically - no issues. Pick-up and return was quick and easy. Price during Covid times was cheap.
Wanted to sign up for Fixed LTE 50/50 for r199 pm. Despite being a prepaid customer for 5 years - buying services for r4000 per year on average - they refused to sign me up for Fixed LTE claiming I have no credit score. I offered to prepay for 24 mths - they refused. They talked to head office, called the manager - no - no credit score no contract - cannot pay upfront. Instead they wanted to sell me yet another prepaid which was 50/40 for double the price. No wonder Cell C is losing money and South Africa has 30 % unemployment. They do not understand the simplest of business principles. A contract has two parties - one pays the other provides service. If I pay 24 mths in advance my obligation is settled. Hilariously there is not even a 24 mths obligation as the contract can be cancelled every month !
Service is very different every time. Sometimes you get served immediately and sometimes it is a struggle even when mostly empty. I never had issues with their food but my daughter's chicken wings caused her some serious stomach problems the following flight.
Typical airport. Usually times for check-in, security check, immigration are ok. On the way to the gates there are a few restaurants and shops. But not enough chairs to sit and wait at the gate - hence wait at a restaurant. I have my data plan but if I remember correctly there is free wifi.
Smaller airport. It wasn't busy and hence security check was quick. Free coffee on the way to the gate. Checkin was fast too.
Beware the long term parking scam. They display to take the left most gate at the entrance. If you do you are still not in long term parking. You need to drive all the way thru the parking lot and pass thru yet another gate to reach long term parking. Many don't realize that (both of our party) and end up paying a week on short term parking rates. You really get set-up for their scam.
Flew JNB to Cape Town and back last year. Decent price, good service and on time.
From time to time they have some designer classics at good prices. Like with any furniture inspect before taking it home or on delivery day.
My favorite fruit and veggies store. Always fresh, always filled-up shelves. Good prices. In addition they sell some farm fresh diary and dry products. Also the best yogurts and ice cream you can find around Jozi.
