I stopped by Cuppachinos at Cradlestone Mall yesterday for what I thought would be a quick, simple breakfast, but the experience left me feeling a bit conflicted. The Experience The Food: I ordered a basic breakfast. While the food itself was fine once it arrived, the wait time was surprisingly long for such a simple order. The Coffee: This was the biggest disappointment. For a place with "Cuppachino" in the name, I expected a high-quality brew. Unfortunately, it was horrible and served cold, which really put a damper on the meal. The Service: The saving grace of the visit was the staff. My waitress was incredibly friendly and polite; she was clearly trying her best despite the delays in the kitchen and the issues with the coffee.
I recently visited the newly launched Walmart at Clearwater Mall with high expectations, given the marketing promise that this would change the face of South African grocery shopping. Unfortunately, the experience was underwhelming and failed to live up to the hype of competing with the likes of Checkers or Pick n Pay. While the store is undoubtedly clean and the merchandise is neatly organized, the layout feels very clinical and lacks any "soul" or excitement. In retail today, especially in South Africa, shoppers are looking for an experience. When you walk into a modern Checkers, there is a distinct vibe and a customer-friendly energy. At Walmart, the staff appeared detached from the business, and the atmosphere felt flat. More concerning was the pricing. Walmart’s global strategy is built on being the price leader, yet I found many items—like a simple can of men's deodorant—to be roughly 30% more expensive than local competitors. If you are entering a saturated market and taking on established giants, you cannot afford to be more expensive while offering a less engaging shopping environment. Constructive Feedback for Management: Pricing Strategy: To truly take on the big names in SA, the "Everyday Low Price" needs to be visible across the board, not just on select items. Store Atmosphere: The clinical, "neat rows" approach feels dated. South African consumers respond well to the fresh, vibrant "market" feel that your competitors have mastered. Staff Engagement: There needs to be a focus on training and motivating staff to engage with the brand and the customers to create a more welcoming environment. As it stands, I don’t see Walmart achieving its goals in SA. Without a serious rethink of the strategy and local execution, you risk losing customers to retailers who simply understand the local "vibe" and pricing better.
What a superb meal at spur Time Square , great atmosphere
Excellent Service at New World Menlyn! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I had a fantastic experience at New World Menlyn recently. I originally purchased an oven, but realized later it was the wrong model for my needs. Returning or exchanging appliances can often be a headache, but the team here made it absolutely seamless. I was assisted immediately without any hassle. A huge shoutout to Renecia from the sales team and the Defy Brand Ambassador—both were incredibly professional, helpful, and efficient. It was a genuine pleasure dealing with a team that prioritizes customer satisfaction. If you’re looking for great service and a professional atmosphere, I highly recommend them! Well done to the team! Would you like me to help you post this directly to a specific platform, or perhaps draft a formal compliment email to their management?
I bought a Dunlopillo Double mattress at Dial-a-Bed Cradlestone Mall and received excellent service from Sizwe and Busi – well done to them! I purchased it on the 28th and it was delivered on the 29th, a day earlier than expected. The mattress is of excellent quality, and I am very happy with my purchase. I can highly recommend Dial-a-Bed for their outstanding service and great products.
Disappointing Experience at Time Square Casino – Serious Management Oversight I visited Time Square Casino in Pretoria on the 20th of June, and I left deeply disappointed. It is quite clear that management involvement is minimal, if not completely absent. Numerous slot machines were out of order, and when I asked the staff for assistance, I was met with rude and dismissive attitudes. This is not what one would expect from a facility that markets itself as a premier entertainment destination. To make matters worse, there were intoxicated individuals loitering around and occupying seats in front of machines, not even playing. This not only creates an uncomfortable environment but also deters serious guests from enjoying the facilities. Even more disturbing was the staff behavior – some were using guest entrances and shouting across the casino floor, completely disregarding the atmosphere and experience of the guests. Such behavior is unprofessional and unacceptable. The toilets were dirty, smelly, and poorly maintained, which raises serious concerns about hygiene standards. Moreover, the security in the parking area felt questionable at best – something that should be a top priority, especially for guests visiting late at night. If I were to compare Time Square with Emperors Palace or Montecasino, unfortunately, Time Square loses hands down. Those establishments are far more organized, welcoming, and well-maintained. Time Square urgently needs serious intervention from upper management. Without it, the overall experience will continue to decline – and loyal patrons will start taking their business elsewhere.
Five-Star Feast and Flawless Service at Rosettas! My recent visit to Rosettas restaurant at Emperors Palace was an absolute delight, deserving nothing less than a five-star review! From start to finish, it was an amazing experience where we were truly treated like kings. My friend and I both ordered the Farmhouse breakfast, and we were blown away by the sheer size and quality of the meal. For just R100, we received a massive plate piled high with two perfectly cooked sausages, a tender piece of steak, two eggs, grilled tomato, crispy bacon, delicious mushrooms, and two mini potato fritters, all accompanied by two slices of toast. It was an incredible amount of food for such a fantastic price – talk about value for money! Beyond the impressive portions and excellent taste, the service was of an exceptionally high standard. Our waitresses were attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful dining experience. I can wholeheartedly recommend Rosettas to anyone looking for a superb meal, generous portions, and top-notch service. Well done, Rosettas – you’ve certainly earned our loyalty!
I had the pleasure of enjoying lunch at Machics Restaurant in Pretoria, and I was thoroughly impressed! From start to finish, everything about this restaurant speaks of quality, care, and excellence. The food and drinks were outstanding – fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The menu offers a wide variety at very reasonable prices, making it great value for money. The restaurant itself is spotless, modern, and comfortable, with shiny floors, clean tables, and cozy seating that makes you want to stay longer. Even the toilets were exceptionally clean, which says a lot about the attention to detail. There's ample parking, making it convenient and safe to visit. Truly, many other restaurants and businesses could learn a thing or two from how Machics is run. Well done to the team at Machics – keep up the excellent work! I’ll definitely be back and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a top-notch dining experience in Pretoria.
Disappointing Experience at Westpack Lynnwood Lane @12.45 , 02/6/25 I went to Westpack at Lynnwood Lane with the intention of purchasing a toolbox. Unfortunately, I walked out without completing the purchase due to the poor service I received. While the shop assistant who helped me was professional, the experience at the checkout was incredibly frustrating. The cashiers were inefficient, more interested in chatting and laughing amongst themselves than attending to customers. Meanwhile, other staff members behind the main counter stood around staring at me, which only made the situation more uncomfortable when I became visibly agitated. Westpack seriously needs to retrain their staff, especially on checkout procedures and customer service. A simple purchase turned into a frustrating and disappointing experience, and I left without the toolbox I intended to buy. Not impressed at all.
Title: Expired Sandwich Sold – Very Disappointed! Rating: 1 star I bought a cheese, cucumber, and salami sandwich at Spar Willow Way on Lynnwood Road, Pretoria, on the 8th of May. When I opened the packaging, I saw that the sell-by date was the 7th of May! The sandwich was soggy, clearly not fresh, and completely inedible. I returned it to the store, and to my shock, the staff member responsible wasn’t even aware that the sandwich was expired. This kind of negligence is unacceptable, especially when it comes to food safety. While they tried to pacify me by offering two hamburgers, the incident left me with serious doubts about their food quality control. Please be vigilant when shopping at Spar Willow Way – check the sell-by dates carefully! I hope Spar improves their standards before someone falls seriously ill.
