I would like to give you my opinion on Shosholoza Meyl, which I took on 30 March 2025 from Durban, arriving 31 March. I am sorry if it offends you, but I need to give my honest opinion. I am extremely disappointed. Food and water are basic human necessities that Shosholoza Meyl should have provided. I took my own food and drinks, but the food ran out and one cannot exactly shower out of a single 1.5 litre bottle of water, which is what they provided. Even at Ladysmith a Transnet manager offered them water for their tanks, but they refused. The only thing they had on board to eat, was bacon & egg toasted sandwiches. Did the passengers seriously have to eat that for 24 hours? When we were kicked off the train without ceremony, at Union Station just before Germiston, the Prasa combi drove around Germiston in circles for an hour, sometimes through taxi ranks. I do not know why the driver did that. It only stopped once to drop passengers. Thank goodness my children did not have to experience what I did. Despite being an avid train ***** for years, I will not easily take Shosholoza Meyl again, if ever. They simply lack the ability to provide a service. I tried an experiment by taking the Shosholoza Meyl and the results are loud and clear.

Since COVID 19 we no longer have trains from and to Johannesburg or Durban even their office in Durban is always closed

We where at the Pietermaritzburg train station to enquire about the train prices and schedule and came across a rudely gentleman by the name of Jabulani .who just made us not welcome,who showed no time for us .in a way that Kabila I just push his way thru if he want to go pass and never apologies for pushing you to a side and also rudely tells us that no taking of videos but they is no sign that prohibited taking of videos.jabulani be-littered us at the Pietermaritzburg train stations and made us think twice about using the shosholoza meyl service. On top of everything jabulani showed no remorse for misusing the powers invested in his by shosholoza meyl

On Friday the 5th of January 2024, I boarded the shosholoza train from Germiston to Queenstown with my granddaughter. I haven't been on a train since the early 90ties and was really looking forward to this journey, and this was supposed to be a treat for my young one. It started of badly. It arrived 20 minutes late and then took a hour to depart. From there it was It was a stop/go stop/go affair. Our arrival time in Queenstown was supposed to be 04h09 the next morning, but we were still in Bloemfontein by then. When enquired as to why, I was told that the train had engine problems. By 13h00, it came to a complete breakdown in burgersdorp. Two hours later it was decided that busses will be hired to take us futher. Busses eventually got to the station just before 18h00, and I got home at 20h50 the Saturday night. 32 hours later. An absolute nightmare.

Shosholoza meyl from Queenstown to Johannesburg Park Station departed at 15h30 on the 02 Jan 2024, we understand the unforseen circumstances, but this one is worse the train stucked at Sasolburg. People are crying there People who take medication are there my wife and my 3 children just imagine, they keep on giving them water no food or fruit because it's their problem now even if people had food it was going to be off by now its unacceptable. The train is still there as I speak, I tried to call management Nokuzola Mancoba she doesn't pick the phone I called three times 🙃 just imagine she doesn't care.

I wish I could choose a minus star because the service is horrific. I queried about service to Cape Town but is suspended indefinitely. I queried again, but on behalf of somebody else, but to East London, then she changed her story, only to Queenstown. She gave me the price for 2 adults. I then queried about dinner and pricing. She cannot answer that because they ONLY deal in selling tickets. I queried who I could contact to get the pricing for dinners, she said she does not know because the company is outside Shosholoza Meyl. I queried again, she bluntly put the phone down. She did not want to give her name. Absolutely pathetic. It was a service run so well not long ago, such a pity because if you look at pricing on flights and fuel it would have been such an experience.

I made a booking on the 8th of January for my furniture to be taken to johannesburg from Port Elizabeth (Gqeberah) and nothing has been delivered until now which is the 29th of January and each week its a different story They know that cables has been stolen but still they make bookings and take payments. No one will call or send an email unless you the customer ask. They offer a good service only on paper but they services are really poor.

Prasa and it's partners are failing us dismally, no one cares about the customers of this business. Infact they don't give a **** about their own stuff members 1st they know the railway situation with cables being stolen, but they never seem prepared to care for customers they sold tickets to. 2ndly they lie to their manager who's sitting waiting for hrs at Kroonstat saying buses will arrive in 30min...30min = 3hrs to this micky mouse business 3rdly they don't even show remourse about how they treat us, not even a word or way to compensate people who are exhausted, hungry,penniless the slightest token of appreciation for supporting their business All I can say is we sick and tired of this service and will never use them ever again. Me and the rest of my family and friends
