I am writing to express my outrage and disappointment at the atrocious service provided by the British Council South Africa team. Despite numerous attempts to contact your office via telephone, I have been met with constant engagement tones and no response. Similarly, my emails have been ignored. My issue began when I attempted to pay for my sister's IELTS booking online, but the system failed. Having previously paid via EFT for my wife's IELTS registration without issue using Nedbank banking details , I assumed this method would still be acceptable. However, since submitting proof of payment and booking details via email, I have been completely ignored. It feels like I'm being penalized for using EFT. The lack of communication is unacceptable, especially considering my sister's exam is scheduled for month-end and she urgently needs study materials.

I registered to write my online test on 6 and 7 November. I uploaded a copy of my passport and British Council sent communication that i meed to upload a colour copy of ID. I however did not receive this email and other emails as they all went to my spam. I only realised that my test was cancelled when i logged on to the test portal on 5 November. Now they cancelled the test and are saying they will not refund or give me a new date to take this test. I saved for a year to write this test and it is disturbing to know that a reputable institution like British Council will employ policies were they just take people’s hard earned money despite not providing the service. They obviously sold my slot to another person and benefited twice while I languish and have to look for another R4800 to re book the test. This is shameful & unfair.

This has been the most horrible experience I had in my entire life. Today was my Academic test day signed on did the precheck all was well. Then came the person that assisted me with checking my desk and my room. I have no computer and the only close thing I have was a Asus Ally that is a windows device and is considered a computer as it has windows on it. I was told that I cannot use the device as its a gamepad and that I need to remove it. I stated to the person that if I remove it I will not be able to take the test. I was told its a non-essential device. The person told me that I need to quit the exam portal and join with a other device within 5 minutes..... Impossible. I got my work laptop downloaded the software and logged in. I was logged out, I tried to connect to the Test Taker portal and constantly got a 502 bad gateway. Tried for almost 2 hours when it decided to start working. l requested for a live chat and have been waiting and waiting for someone to assist me. I received a mail stating that I will not be getting a refund as I was using a non-essential device..... Its a essential device for me to do the test. I am disgusted to the highest.

I have the most unprofessional and illiterate consultant called Ayanda Mtshali who cant read or reply to the email context? She then calls me and is incredibly rude to me over the phone. I took the Cambridge syllabus and I took my exams through them I registered to take my exams for the Oct/Nov session back in August of this year. I then received an email of my student of entry with the dates and the venue the exams would take place. I later received another email in Sept letting me know that they have changed the venue as well as the exam dates. All the dates I had received seemed to be incorrect because the days I was told to visit the center were not the correct dates. I contacted them numerous times for assistance and they still failed to help me. They told that they unable to refund me or schedule new dates for me. I would like know if there is any way you can assist me. Any information you may have would be really helpful. They seem to not consider students, I have reached out numerous times and was dismissed by the management without any assistance. This process has been emotionally exhausting. The money and effort I have put in has gone to waste. They are able to communicate with the students. I'm disappointed with the service I received.

My wife has applied to complete the IELTS general test to apply for a UK spousal visa. She paid her money R3200, booked a flight from Durban to Pretoria and Hotel accommodation as she was only given a date and not a time for the exam. Then received a mail to rebook the test, which she did this time in Durban as their offices had opened after Covid-19 and told to wait for the confirmation letter. After numerous phone calls and emails and only generalised computer generated responses she still waits for a new date. 17 September was the first exam Pretoria date that was cancelled by IELTS, 26 September exam in Durban came and went and still no response... This is a disgrace from so a called professional organisation and needs investigation as it looks like a scam - British High Commission, Consulate Enquiry Services local number is 012 421 7500 is their 24/7 number which is of no help whatsoever as that is a redirection service to www.gov.uk/visa-application
