Two years ago, I ordered glasses from Spec-Savers Tygervalley Mall, but the prescription was wrong. The issue was corrected by redoing the order, and I was assured the first order would be cancelled in Spec saver's system and it will go to PPN who will then resend it back to my scheme to be added back to my savings. This required me to resubmit a shortfall claim gain to my medical aid via PPN, which I did I resigned all the required paperwork and submitted accordingly. Fast forward to this year: when I ordered new glasses, it took more than a month just for the shortfall to be allocated from my medical aid via this PPN. I was close to giving up. Earlier this week, I finally received a call to collect my glasses (with the understanding that they cannot be released unless the shortfall is settled). Since I collected my glasses on 11/09/2025, I assumed everything had been processed and paid. However, just before leaving the store, I was suddenly told I owed R345 and was advised to contact Finance Spec Savers. With the store’s assistance, I did so, only to later be informed that the actual amount outstanding was R1900. This is beyond disappointing. Now I am being asked to fill out the same form I already submitted three times in 2023. Clearly, the internal control systems are failing because how could I have received my glasses in 2023 if the shortfall had not been processed in the first place? and now if I fill in the form where will that money go? Because it will clearly be a second payment for one item which already expired as I am writing here. I am extremely dissatisfied and will be changing my medical aid scheme, as I refuse to continue dealing with *********** service provider (PPN).

This is the WORST supplier I have ever come across!!! I have been a member of Best Med for the past 20 years, and my optical claims have always been paid without any hassle, but after they have co-opted the services of PPN, my claim has not been paid!! Worst of all, I cannot seem to reach ANYBODY to just simply ask why??? Definitely NOT USER FRIENDLY!! I am now considering changing medical aids and BestMed will lose a lifelong client, and that because of poor service received from PPN.

If I look at the 1 star rating, and the fact that don't even bother to respond to the reviews, then I guess I am only venting as nothing will be done. I've been with Bonitas for 7 years, and have change plans this year. Unsure of my optometry benefits, I've enquired from them, they responded on email that I have full benefits. I then proceeded by going for an appointment and order my lenses. Now they came back to tell me I have no optometry benefits whatsoever. I would never would have gone if I knew I don't have any benefits and it will come out of my own pocket. They are utterly ***********, and can't be bother to man up to their mistakes.

The 1 star rating on Hello Peter does not surprise me what so ever. Ridiculous service. Bestmed keep using these guys as a third-party SERVICE provider for optical benefits BUT they are terrible on all accounts! PPN's benefits confirmation on their website are not working again. You have to enter 5 pieces of personal information every time just to VIEW your benefits. (obviously never heard of username and password as the rest of the world is using) Unfortunately I can not even do this as it now tells me I am not a member! (been a member for 20+ years) Emailed and phoned but still no solution.... Really! this is the most basic service... Please also escalate problems to your medical aid - you are paying for this (non) service

PPN is the worst! So every 2 years I do my optical exam between Jan-Mar. 2022 I could not test between Jan-Mar because I was pregnant and the Optometrist advise to wait 3 months after delivery for hormones to stabilize. 2022 I had to wait until June. So this year PPN told me that because I only tested in June I now have to wait until June again which is a disadvantage to me. On 19 March SpecSavers submitted an enquirie and it was declined. The did a motivation and PPN then ACCEPTED the claim as per their SMS to me on 22 March. SpecSavers also confirmed that PPN accepted the claim and proceeded with the order. On 16 April I received a statement confirming that PPN declined to pay the order because I DO NOT have benefits. Keep in mind that they ACCEPTED the claim March. When I called PPN they NOW all of a sudden did not receive the motivation they received in march. Specsavers resubmitted the motivation on 16 April and then DECLINED the claim for clinical facts. PPN refuse to understand that March and June falls within the same year 2024!!!! I cant test now and again in June??? Its the same YEAR!!! What difference would it make to accept the claim 3 months prior???? Its STILL THE SAME YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am without glasses at the moment because PPN refuse to pay the claim THEY ACCEPTED IN MARCH. I will definitely take this further.

On the 6th of March 2023 i raised an issue with Bonitas who escalated it to PPN and a query number was given to me and that was it. 17 days later i still have no response. Sent a followup email and still no response They highly encourage the use of self help service and email while they are not attended to. They offer the poorest service ever. I always hear that Government services are the worst but i have never experienced such, try PPN Optical Network of Choice and see what they mean by "network of choice" they mean horrifying experience at the highest level. Unfortunately youy dont choose them, your medical aid chooses them and in this case Bonitas is my medical aid.
