In July 2024, I signed a 24-month membership with Fight Club SA at R450 per month (Centurion branch). On 1 April 2025, I submitted a written cancellation request through the Fight Club support system after approximately nine months of membership. I never made use of the gym facilities during this period. The same day, I received a pro forma invoice for R4,230 described as a “rate adjustment” for early cancellation. The email stated that the cancellation would only be processed if this invoice was paid within five days. My understanding of Section 14 of the Consumer Protection Act is that consumers may cancel a fixed-term contract with notice, subject to a reasonable cancellation penalty. I disputed the amount because I believed the fee was not reasonable, particularly as the facilities had never been used. After disputing the invoice and cancelling the debit order, I began receiving notices stating that my account was in arrears and that it could be handed over for collection. The amount later escalated to R7,650 and eventually to R8,911 once debt collectors became involved. Because the cancellation dispute could not be resolved directly with Fight Club SA, I escalated the matter through mediation and eventually lodged a complaint with the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud (CGSO). The case is currently under investigation under reference 202509-0171463. Despite the active Ombud investigation and the account being formally disputed, I have continued receiving collection attempts. I am sharing this experience so that other consumers are aware of how cancellation disputes may be handled and to encourage Fight Club SA to engage constructively with the Ombud process so that the matter can be resolved.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience at FightClub SA. After using the gym only four times, I requested to cancel my membership due to a very serious issue. One of the trainers harassed my girlfriend during our time there, which made both of us feel uncomfortable and unsafe. I formally complained about the incident and clearly stated on their app that neither my partner nor I feel comfortable attending their gym anymore. Despite this, they are refusing to allow me to cancel my membership. It is unacceptable to ignore a harassment complaint and then continue to force customers to remain locked into a membership. A gym should be a safe and welcoming environment for everyone, and unfortunately that has not been our experience at all. I would not recommend FightClub SA to anyone looking for a professional or respectful training environment.

I am very disappointed with Fight Club, I would discourage anyone wanting to take a long term contract. I have picked up a few times where i have been charged for additional 1:1 personal training where i had sessions cancelled at least 24 hours before the next day. It started as just one day, then two and now talks of 6/4 days. I am looking forward to end my contract and move on. The trainers are excellet but the admin (no direct access, no customer service) and the gym facility (old equipment and ****roaches) are terrible, leaves a lot to be desired. I am still wating for my query to answered, which days i am being charged for, so that i share the days cancelled on the App. Whoever sits behind the Support email address cannot explain and provide this as requested. Nick is not picking up calls, ended up blocking me after just 1 polite text asking for assistance.

I’ve had the worst experience with this gym company. I signed up for a 24-month contract in November 2023, but unfortunately, I was laid off from work in December 2023. In January 2024, I reached out to them to explain my situation and asked if I could pay the cancellation fee once I was employed again. My emails were completely ignored. Instead, I received threats via email, and in May 2024, they issued a garnishment order against me, despite my attempts to communicate. When I showed them proof of my cancellation request, they dismissed it, only to later escalate the matter to debt collectors, claiming I never tried to cancel or make payments. Now that I’m employed again, I’m trying to arrange payments, but they continue to make things difficult. This gym company has been unresponsive, unprofessional, and unwilling to work with me on a reasonable solution. I do not recommend them to anyone looking for a gym with good customer support or understanding.

Dont sign any contracts with this company as they will charge you over inflated fees to try cancel, and then if you lower your package they will restart the the 2 years all over again to keep you paying. I joined this gym over 2 years ago for my son - he then had to go to a rehab facility for 2 years so I requested if they would allow me to cancel the contract due to the fact he can longer go and that it was a waist of money. There response was no you signed a 2 year contract and we could only cancel if we paid a huge cancellation amount of R 5884. Even though we were paying a lessor rate when you want to cancel they change your current rate because that is a special then the work it out on the non special rate which is far more. See below... Email from fight club " Month to month: 2395 6 month: 1750 12 month: 1250 24 month: 999 You joined on the 24 month rate, early termination would mean that you only qualify for the month to month rate. Please see attached draft invoice for the revised fees required for early termination. Payment of this amount would terminate your membership agreed. If no payment or response is received within 5 days of this email your package will continue as intended and this amount would expire. Future requests would be subject to a revised amount. " Being very upset about this situation they then suggested why don't I reduce my package size to a smaller option - which I then decided at least I wont have to pay as much every month. To my surprise I sent them an email 2 days ago requesting to cancel ( as it has now been more than 2 years since I signed my original contract. They once again said no I will have to pay R 3400 to cancel again because when I reduce the package the 2 year contract restarts all over again. See fight club email below "Hi Champ, Thank you for your request for early termination of your FightClub Membership. All of our packages have the following pricing options; month to month, 6, 12 & 24 month. You joined on our discounted 24 month rate and early cancellation would mean that you qualify for the 12 month rate. Please see attached draft invoice for the revised fees required for early termination totalling R3400 You can finalise your cancellation and view payment options on the below link: ". I would be very carefull in signing any contract with this greedy company.

Fight Club Bryanston is the best gym I have ever been to, with friendly, world class trainers who are also professional boxers. Each day I have a different trainer who brings a different element of training and different circuit and boxing techniques. My body and my mind has changed. It’s the first time I’ve signed up for a gym and been consistent at it. This is all due to the way the training is set out very engaged and creative

Please make use of Top Gun Boxing Gym, and never ever sign up with Fight Club SA. Be aware of these ****mers.. the contract signed up for was R860 for 12 months, however the amount deducted off my bank account was R890. The staff at the dainfern branch cuts sessions short by 10min and no stretching is included in the sessions, although stated so on their website. Quick to demand payment for the cancellation of the contract but no response received when asked about the overcharged debit orders.

This is possible the worst contract I have ever entered into. I have requested for cancelation fees and it keeps on increasing monthly, even after then running debit order. They can't make sense of this as they continue to ***** money from us. I highly recommend not joining this gyn unless you are willing to sign your life away!!
