I wish to express my frustration and anger wrt TVG (in conjunction with Holiday club) timeshare, wrt the penalties being levied as a result of adjusted lockdown levels. I have been a longstanding member and fractional owner at TVG, who also rents out holiday accommodation through other clubs. We booked a week away at Sanbonani in Hazyview for the week of 2 - 9 July at an exchange fee of R1 674.00 which was paid immediately to my TVG club after the booking was confirmed. On Sunday, 27 June 2021, our President, Mr. Cyril Ramaphosa imposed lockdown level 4 regulations as a result of a rise of COVID 19 cases (especially in Gauteng). One of the rulings made was that no travel between provinces were allowed and that, should you be caught, it would be a criminal offence which is linked to arrest and jail time. As a result of this, we were forced to cancel the booking at Sanbonani, through TVG (in conjunction with Holiday Club), where the points were used. It was not of our doing, as we just could not go anymore due to the new lockdown ruling. According to TVG (Holiday Club), the terms and conditions of the Holiday Club is that, should there be a cancellation, a penalty fee of R1 097.00 be payable and that the points utilized for that week be returned to me as the owner of the timeshare (which I appreciate). My problem though is that the cancellation fee charged to me as a result of something which I had no control over. I am now being penalized in monetary form because I was forced to cancel my accommodation to stay within the Law of South Africa. In a time where it is financially tough for every household in SA, to still be robbed of hard earned money by companies filling their pockets, is unforgivable. We, the poor people, who try and go away for a well earned break, support and help these companies to also pay their staff and dues. It breaks my hart that they have to blatantly steal one's money. It is therefor my opinion that, in a case like Covid lockdown adjusted levels, these cancellation penalties be refunded in full to the consumer and that those entities adjust their terms and conditions of their policies to accommodate the newest pandemic (COVID 19) and the effect it has on the South Africa as a whole, but also on us, the poor willing consumer, who always have to bear the grunt of companies and their plight to milk the consumer for every cent they have. I have been charged more than 60% of the fee I paid as a penalty and this to me is unacceptable as I had no joy of going away. I just have to part with my money and get over it. Its like walking up to someone and stealing his wallet full of money, saying; "oh, sorry, I am taking your money and there is nothing you can do about it"!!!!!!!

Really disappointed with the structure of this timeshare experience, especially this year. Been with this group for about 10 years with "10 more years of holidays" and for the first time, in the year of a pandemic, I am asked to pay a "exchange fee". When I question this and mention that I've been booking holidays for 10 years without needing to pay this "exchange fee", the response I get is that agents had been tasked to get the fee from members and they haven't been doing it. For me a precedent has been set for 10 years and come pandemic year there is now all of a sudden "exchange fees". I have expressed my displeasure and nothing is being done. I would advise anyone that was thinking about joining this group to please stay away. I have personally invited about 3 friends who are part of this and am now regretting from this recent experience and treatment received. Another thing I am realizing is that there is clearly no point in being a part of this type of timeshare because now for 2020-2021 my "annual levies" are R5400 (I can book myself and family a lekka holiday for that much) without needing someone to require this paid at a certain time in the year and over and above that pay a "exchange fee" . Really disappointed and hope someone reads this before tying themselves to a nightmare. An extremely disgruntled faithful member of 11years.

Good day Appended here under kindly receive proof of email dated 20 March 2016 that i have in the past tried to engage TVGC but that came to to avail. I have also sent then this proof to show that the statement made that i did not engage them in untrue. The trailing email hereunder dated 29 March 2016 is evidence that I have been since 2016 trying to sort this matter with your company but that came to no avail hence I had to seek the intervention of oversight bodies. This matter cannot be postponed for another day it has been long far too long. Please with due respect do not take me for a ride, stop sending me this way and that way and clinging to nothing it is not true that I have approached TVGC no through Hellopter as this is proof enough that I have engaged you in the past. What more did TVGC expect me to do other that what I did, that is not fair at all. I have deliberately copied Hellopeter in order for them to discover the false claims that you guys are making against me that I did not follow proper channels and you were not aware of the matter. That is blatant lies I don’t think TVGC will escape liability in any tribunal based on the evidence before the eyes of the public. I was made to understand that the reservation to the aforementioned accommodation can only be made off season hence my request to obtain dates which are vacant in order to streamline my reservation accordingly. The TVGC company promised me a seven (7) days free accommodation in Platenberg Bay in Cape town as indicated on my contract as part of the package saying i can secure that accommodation any time out of season. I have tried to secure with them the accommodation but that came to no avail because they refused me citing flimsy reasons that there was a misrepresentation by one of their employees. In such instances where an employee would have mislead clients then the employer should have picked it when they captured my contract on the system. The employer must bear the consequences of what their respective employees agree on the contracts because those contracts end up in the administration office where they have to quality assured by managers before they are captured therefore TVGC cannot under the circumstances escape vicarious liability.

Every year we want to book our week holiday with TVGC it is a nightmare. They never seem to have space available. I have to send emails back and forth and end up fighting with them, and they try and send you to second grade resorts not of your choice. Not even out of 9 preferred resorts in off peak season are they able to help us with a booking, and with 5-8 months in advance. They clearly do not have enough stock available for their clients. There was a lot of promises made about plenty of stock and availability when we were signed up. The newest now is that they only have limited peak season stock and that I have to pay in a difference of R4659 for this. I own a silver week, but they cant supply me what they sold to me and I have to pay in if I want to use my week that I had to pay for already.

The TVG Vacation Club is an absolute joke and their service is shocking. Riekie Coetzee who works for them never gets back to messages or requests and comes up with excuse after excuse as to why your problem/request is not dealt with. I find it hard to believe that this company is in business at all. My advice to anyone who reads this is to please please please let all your family members know not to use their services at all. Don’t bother trying to speak to the manager either it seems he is as incompetent as Riekie.

When i asked them about the free accommodation as mentioned on the contract they tossed me around i was transferred from one person to another with no amicable solution. Other than that In January this year when i was supposed to be booked for accommodation they secured a substandard accommodation in Durban called Sliver Sands. This accommodation is not even of the size of my time shares as mine is a 4-sleeper but i was booked in a 2-sleeper.

TVG is the worst I ever came across. They do not respond to your e-mails and lack in customer service. Paid my package for a number of years as a loyal customer and have many accumulating days to use. Tried to make a booking numerous times this year and every time they responded that there is no available dates for the time I want to book. I have contacted the resorts where I wanted to book and all of them have available space but TVG can't help you? Contacted them regarding this matter, and got no respond! When I asked to speak with a manager and have a email address to a manager to escalate my complaint they told me I must email this to info. This is unprofessional. So if you have a complaint with the staff or the package you have absolutely nowhere to take your complaint to. Do not waste your money with TGV! You pay for absolutely NOTHING!
